SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2020, AT 6:00 P. M. CITY HALL, PASCAGOULA, MISSISSIPPI The City Council of the City of Pascagoula, Mississippi, met at City Hall in a special meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 6:00 P.M., as per the following notice: NOTICE OF A SPECIAL CALL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PASCAGOULA WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2020, AT 6:00 P.M. CITY HALL, PASCAGOULA, MISSISSIPPI Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Pascagoula will meet at City Hall on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of discussing management of the Pascagoula Sports Complex. We, the undersigned members of the City Council of the City of Pascagoula, MS, do hereby waive further notice of and consent to a special call meeting of the City Council at 6:00 p.m. on January 29, 2020, in the City Hall of the City for the purpose hereinabove stated. This notice and consent is being given pursuant to Section 21-9-39 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 as annotated and amended. A copy of this notice and consent to a special meeting shall be sent by the City Clerk to local media and posted as required by law. /s/ Stephen Burrow Stephen Burrow, Acting Mayor /s/ Willie C. Jones, Councilman Ward 1 /s/ Felix Fornett Felix Fornett, Councilman Ward 2 /s/ Matt Parker Matt Parker, Councilman Ward 4 /s/ Scott Tipton Scott Tipton, Councilman Ward 5 /s/ Jennifer Coleman Jennifer Colmer, Councilwoman at Large Acting Mayor Burrow welcomed everyone to the meeting. The invocation was given by Councilwoman Colmer. The pledge of allegiance was led by Councilman Parker. ***** Michael Silverman, City Manager, opened the discussion regarding the management of the Pascagoula Sports Complex. Steve Jordan with Turf Masters gave input regarding the City hosting weekend tournaments. During the meeting, the Council and members of the Pascagoula Recreation Commission asked various questions and voiced concerns on items related to Pascagoula Sports Complex Project, such as the maintenance of the fields; the rental use agreement; and how concessions will be managed. Those in attendance further discussed the responsibilities of the softball and baseball leagues. Councilwoman Colmer made a motion to form a recommendation committee – consisting of Steve Jordan, Geoff Clemons, Jimmy Colmer, Jon Reynolds, Scott Tipton, Alan Sudduth, and individuals to-be-determined representing the softball league’s interests – regarding naming rights at the Pascagoula Sports complex. The motion was seconded by Councilman Burrow and received the following vote: Councilmen Colmer “AYE”, Jones “AYE”, Fornett “AYE”, Burrow “AYE”, Parker “AYE”, and Tipton “AYE”. (Approved 01-29-2020) Discussion regarding the naming of the complex will be continued at a later date. ***** There being no further business to come before the Council tonight, Councilman Parker made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Councilman Jones and received the following vote: Councilmen Colmer “AYE”, Jones “AYE”, Fornett “AYE”, Burrow “AYE”, Parker “AYE”, and Tipton “AYE”.
