CITY OF PELICAN RAPIDS COUNCIL MINUTES – 12-5-00
The City Council of Pelican Rapids met at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, 12-5-00, in the Pelican
Rapids Public Library to conduct a Truth in Taxation Hearing. Present: Mayor Wayne
Runningen, Council Members Paulette Nettestad, John Waller III, Denise Magnusson
and Dave Gottenborg. Also present: Administrative Assistant Richard A. Jenson,
Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Glenys Ehlert, Jackie Peterson, Marlan D. Peterson, Gerald
Grefsrud and Bonnie Haugrud.
Mayor Runningen called the Truth in Taxation Hearing to order at 7:00 p.m.
Administrative Assistant Richard A. Jenson explained the process the City has used to
establish the proposed budget for 2001. Copies of the proposed budget were
distributed to the members of the public present.
Mayor Runningen explained that the special levy includes a bond payment on the street
improvement project as well as other projects. The new street lighting is included as
part of leasing costs in the regular budget.
Members of the public requested information on various items of the budget. Some
people present asked about valuation information on their hearing notice. Information
on valuations will be available in April or May at the Board of Review Hearing.
Mayor Runningen explained that this meeting is for information on the budget. The
budget will be considered at the Council’s next meeting on 12-11-00, 6:30 p.m. in the
Pelican Rapids Public Library meeting room. He explained that Local Government Aid
is an important part of the City’s budget. Without this assistance taxpayer bills would be
higher for city services.
Motion by Waller, seconded by Nettestad to adjourn the Truth in Taxation Hearing at
7:25 p.m.
