CITY OF PELICAN RAPIDS COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES – 12-02-02
The City of Pelican Rapids City Council met in special session to conduct a public
hearing on the Proposed 2003 Budget. Mayor Wayne Runningen, Council Memebers
Paulette Nettestad, Denise Magnusson, John Waller III and Dave Gottenborg were
present. No one was absent. Administrative Assistant Richard A. Jenson, Deputy
Clerk-Treasurer Glenys Ehlert and Library Director Pam Westby were also present. No
members of the public were present.
Mayor Runningen called the public hearing to order.
Administrative Assistant Richard A. Jenson explained that the City is not required to
hold a public hearing on the budget in 2002. However, since the City has held budget
hearings for the past 20 years, it was decided to continue to offer this opportunity for
citizen comment.
The Council directed Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Glenys Ehlert to publish a condensed
version of the minutes since the complete text is published on the City web site.
Council discussed possibility of state cuts to Local Government Aid. The Budget
Committee of Mayor Runningen and Council Member Gottenborg identified areas to
eliminate services if necessary to accommodate those cuts.
Mayor Runningen reviewed budget reductions the Committee already made.
The adoption of the Proposed 2003 Budget will be on the Council’s agenda next week,
at their regularly scheduled meeting on 12-09-02, 6:00 p.m., Council Chambers, City
Hall, 315 N. Broadway.
Meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
Glenys Ehlert, CMC
Deputy Clerk-Treasurer
