CITY OF PIEDMONT – SPECIAL PARK & RECREATION BOARD George Fina Municipal Building 314 Edmond Road NW Monday, March 30, 2015 6:30 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Nick Kittredge, Barbara Groomis, Paul Francel, Lyn Land and Melissa Ashford ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Secretary Mary Ramsey 1) CALL TO ORDER – Chairman Nick Kittredge called meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. 2) ROLL CALL – Secretary Mary Ramsey called roll. A quorum was present. 2 people where in the audience. 3) CONSENT AGENDA – All items on the consent agenda are non-controversial and may be approved by one motion. a) Approval of Minutes of the Special Park & Recreation meeting on January 5, 2015. Melissa Ashford made a motion to table meeting minutes from the January 19, 2015 Park and Recreation board meeting. Motion was seconded by Paul Francel. Meeting date is incorrect on agenda item. Correct date of the Park and Recreation meeting is January 19, 2015. The Vote was: AYE: Chairman Nick Kittredge, Barbara Groomis, Lyn Land, Melissa Ashford and Vice Chairman Paul Francel NAYE: None 4) CONSIDERATION OF ITEMS REMOVED FROM THE CONSENT AGENDA – None 5) PUBLIC HEARING – Topics to include those items not listed in the agenda. None Special Park and Recreation Meeting March 30, 2015 1  6) BUSINESS ITEMS – a) DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE STATUS OF ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT FOR THE CITY OF PIEDMONT BY DR. TAMARA STATES. Bill Bailey Baseball Commissioner for the PSA commented the Baseball fields have been donated for the Easter Egg hunt and the sprinkler system will be turned off during the activity. b) PRESENTATION BY PSA COMMISSIONER BILL BAILEY REGARDING POTENTIAL RELOCATION OF THE PSA BASEBALL FIELDS TO NEW, POSSIBLY DONATED, LAND WITHIN PIEDMONT CITY LIMITS. Baseball Commissioner Bill Bailey addressed the Park and Recreation Board. Bill Bailey discussed the growth of the Piedmont baseball program. The program has grown from 17 teams to 36 teams. The program now serves more than 400 children. Currently the program is unable to service softball. Baseball program is part of the CBBB baseball league. Program does not have enough land for growth. The baseball program has people and volunteers to help the program grow but they do not have access to donated land. Bill Bailey is communicating with the Park and Recreation Board that if land is being offered as a donation to the Park and Recreation board his program can put the land to use. 7) NEW BUSINESS – a) Unplanned Items. Lyn Land asked about the Easter Egg hunt. Have the eggs been stuffed? Melissa Ashford followed up with Dr. States and was unable to connect with her to assist with getting the eggs stuffed Nick Kittredge spoke with Dr. States, he and his family have volunteered to help hide the eggs on the day of the activity. Nick Kittredge will follow up with Dr. States for additional information. Barbara Groomis – commented that the original date of the Easter egg hunt for Saturday March 28th. She came up to the City offices to volunteer for the event and there was no one at the offices. She asked that she be communicated when changes occur in activity dates. 8) BOARD MEMBER’S COMMENTS – Paul Francel – commented that he likes the new sidewalks, thank you for the work done on the sidewalk project. Was able to get the UCO students out to volunteer on the park. Supplies were provided. Special Park and Recreation Meeting March 30, 2015 2  Nick Kittredge commented that the UCO students worked on Prairie Wind park. They worked from 10:20 to 1:30. The student painted the inside of the pavilion, however they did not finish all of the work. Nick has reached out to Bud with Public works department and asked Bud to assist with finishing the painting project. Bud has put in 2 new baby swings and a new handicap sign. Weeds pulled from the flower beds, mulch added and they are looking much nicer.
