Council Minutes January 16, 2025 Regular Meeting The Pinson City Council met in regular session at Pinson City Hall at 4410 Main Street, Pinson, on Thursday, January 16,2025, Mayor Roberts led the invocation. Councilor Walker led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. Roll Call: Marie Turner City Clerk, called the roll of Pinson City Council with the following members present: Councilor Irvin Councilor Walker Councilor Sanders Councilor Churchwell Councilor Kirkland Mayor Roberts Minutes: Councilor Kirkland offered a motion to waive the reading of and approve the minutes from January 2, 2025. Councilor Walker duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts called for all in favor say ‘aye’, all opposed say ‘no’. Mayor Roberts, “Let the record reflect the ‘ayes’ carry unanimously”. Rules Suspended Mayor Roberts announced the Christmas Parade float winners. 1st Place Kermit Johnson Elementary School $125.00 2nd Place Pinson Methodist Church $75.00 3rd Place Girls Scott Troop 25007 $50.00 Checks will be delivered. Thanks to Hand Arendall and Clear Winds for sponsoring the prizes Rules Reinstated Finance: Councilor Irvin offered a motion to approve the bills in the amount of $159,256.55. Councilor Walker duly seconded the motion. Bill Highlights were Jefferson County Sheriffs Dept. Oct.- Jan. and Hughes Printing. Mayor Roberts called for all in favor say ‘aye’, all opposed say ‘no’. Mayor Roberts, “Let the record reflect the ‘ayes’ carry unanimously”. Annexation: Councilor Churchwell offered a Ordinance of annexation for 5370 Clay Palmerdale Rd. Councilor Kirkland duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts called for a roll call vote with the following results: Councilor Irvin- yes, Councilor Walker- yes, Councilor Sanders-yes, Councilor Churchwell- yes, Councilor Kirkland- yes, Mayor Roberts- yes. Mayor Roberts called for unanimous consent to consider with the following results: Councilor Irvin- yes, Councilor Walker- yes, Councilor Sanders-yes, Councilor Churchwell- yes, Councilor Kirkland- yes, Mayor Roberts- yes. Mayor Roberts, “let the record reflect Ordinance 2025-02 passes unanimously.” Mayor Reports: Mayor Roberts announced that Shred Days for 2025 will be offered again for the citizens beginning in March and then once a quarter. Mayor Roberts mentioned that city facilities will be closed on January 20th Martin Luther King Day. Eric Winfrey explained how citizens can file a complaint/concern with the city by using our City Website. Old Business: Councilor Walker offered a motion to approve the preliminary drawing of the Veterans Honor Park and appoint a point of contact for communication. Councilor Sanders duly seconded the motion. Councilor Walker stated Scott Ragsdale secured private funding for this park. Mayor Roberts called for all in favor say ‘aye’, all opposed say ‘no’. Mayor Roberts, “Let the record reflect the ‘ayes’ carry unanimously”. New Business: Councilor Sanders offered an ordinance regarding tax free holidays, severe weather and back to school. Councilor Walker duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts, “let the record reflect Ordinance 2025-01 passes unanimously.” Councilor Irvin offered a Resolution concerning approval of Alcoholic Beverage License for Aldi. Councilor Kirkland duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts, “let the record reflect Resolution 25-02 passes unanimously.” Mayor Roberts mentioned the Aldi Grand Opening is January 30th at 8:30 a.m. There are no current tenants for the other portion of the building currently. Councilor Walker offered a motion to approve computers for Center Point Fire District vehicles for field use in the amount of $28,760.00. Councilor Sanders duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts called for a roll call vote with the following results: Councilor Irvin- yes, Councilor Walker- yes, Councilor Sanders-yes, Councilor Churchwell- yes, Councilor Kirkland- yes, Mayor Roberts- yes. Mayor Roberts, “let the record reflect the motion passes unanimously.” Councilor Walker offered a motion to distribute funds to the fire districts, adding 50% will be $50,000.00 for Center Point and Palmerdale and the full amount of $1,500.00 for Glenwood. $50,000.00 remains to be distributed later as follows; $25,000.00 in April and $25,000.00 in June, to both Center Point and Palmerdale Fire Districts. Councilor Kirkland duly seconded the motion. Mayor Roberts, “let the record reflect the motion passes unanimously.” Councilor Sanders offered a motion to assist with the funds for Public Safety at PVHS in the amount of $7,200.00. Public Comment: Chief Chris Horn, CenterPoint Fire Department thanked the council for grant approval. He also gave the Fire District Report. Chief Taylor Hancock thanked council for allocating funds for Palmerdale Fire District. James Vining, 6803 Markham Drive, Clay, Thanked Scott Ragsdale for the presentation. Wished Councilor Irvin a Happy Birthday. Councilor Irvin mentioned former Mayor Joe Cochran a Happy Heavenly Birthday. Councilor Walker offered a motion to adjourn the meeting.
