CITY OF PLACERVILLE RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION September 19, 2018 MINUTES PRESENT: Recreation & Parks Commission: Jerry Barton, Andrew Mathews, Jackie Neau, and Richard Zito. Recreation & Parks Staff: Steve Youel and Matt Lishman. ABSENT: Peter Nolan GUESTS: ADOPTION OF AGENDA: Mr. Barton made the motion to approve the agenda. Mr. Zito seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mr. Zito made the motion to approve the minutes of June 20, 2018. Mr. Barton seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT: None ACTION ITEMS: Aquatics Center Funding Request: Mr. Lishman reported that in four of the last five fiscal years the County of El Dorado has donated $20,000 to the Placerville Aquatics Center. The funding is intended to offset increased costs associated with maintenance and operation of the facility. Mr. Lishman shared with the commission that one of the major selling points is the fact that 75% of the City’s pool users live outside the City limits. Mr. Lishman also shared with commission the unforeseen expenditures that were needed during this summer’s season. Mr. Barton made a motion to approve staff’s recommendation. Mr. Zito seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. Adult Sports Fee Increases: Mr. Lishman reported that part-time employee minimum wage will be increasing by $1.00 from $11.00 to $12.00 on January 1, 2019. Mr. Lishman stated that this increase will have a financial impact on the City’s Adult Basketball, Adult Volleyball, and Adult Softball programs. In order to offset increased personnel costs, staff recommended the following increases: 1. $12.00 increase to the Adult 5x5 Basketball team registration fee from $439.00 to $451.00 effective January 1, 2019. 2. $5.00 increase to the Adult 3x3 Basketball team registration fee from $122.00 to $127.00 effective January 1, 2019. 3. $10.00 increase to the Adult 4x4 Volleyball team registration fee from $155.00 to $165.00 effective January 1, 2019. 4. $10.00 increase to the Adult Softball team registration fee from $499.00 to $509.00 effective January 1, 2019. Mr. Mathews made a motion to approve staff’s recommendation. Mr. Barton seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. Gold Bug Park Tour Rate Increase: Mr. Lishman reported that as with the Adult Sports Program the part-time employee minimum wage increase to take place January 1, 2019 will have a financial impact on offering Gold Bug Park mine tours. In order to offset increased personnel costs, staff is recommended the following fee increases: 1. $2.00 increase to the Adult (Ages 18+) Self-Guided tour rates from $7.00 to $9.00 effective January 1, 2019. 2. $1.00 increase to the Youth (Ages 3-17) Self-Guided tour rates from $4.00 to $5.00 effective January 1, 2019. Mr. Mathews made a motion to approve staff’s recommendation. Mr. Barton seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. STAFF REPORTS: Youth Assistance Fund: Mr. Lishman reported that since our last meeting there were 20 requests for funding in the amount of $1,061.00. Staff received $0.00 in donations and the projected fund balance is $5,016.77. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 pm.
