Recreation & Parks Commission Meeting

CITY OF PLACERVILLE RECREATION & PARKS COMMISSION January 21, 2015 MINUTES PRESENT: Recreation & Parks Commission: Jerry Barton, Andrew Mathews, Peter Nolan, and Jackie Neau. Recreation & Parks Staff: Steve Youel and Matt Lishman. ABSENT: Richard Zito, Commissioner. GUESTS: None ADOPTION OF AGENDA: Mr. Mathews made the motion to approve the agenda. Mr. Nolan seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mr. Nolan made the motion to approve the minutes of November 19. Mr. Mathews seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT: None STATUS REPORTS: Youth Assistance Fund: Mr. Lishman reported that there were 6 requests since our last meeting in the amount of $229.00. There were $3,513.50 donations. The projected fund balance is $3,317.32. Youth Basketball Program: Mr. Lishman reported that the 2015 youth basketball program is off to a great start. There have been two weekends of games and everything has gone great. There are a total of 75 teams with roughly 716 players, 71 coaches; four coaches are coaching two teams; 27 assistant coaches. The league will end the weekend of March 7th and 8th. Development of a Bike Park: Tabled to next Month. Mr. Youel will contact Vickie Sanders (El Dorado County Parks) to discuss possible bike park locations. Special Events on El Dorado Trail: Mrs. Neau said El Dorado County is working on a draft policy regarding special events on the El Dorado Trail. The draft policy is similar to the City of Placerville’s existing policy. A follow-up discussion is planned for the County’s next Commission meeting. Mr. Youel reported that progress is being made in phase one development of the trail from Forni Road to Lower Main Street. Staff is working with the City Engineering Department to coordinate proper signage and striping. Mr. Nolan cautioned from a liability stand point to make sure if passing lanes are put in that it is truly safe to pass. Commission Terms: Mr. Youel shared that Recreation and Parks Commission terms of service have expired for Jackie Neau, Richard Zito, and Andrew Mathews. Mr. Youel encouraged all to re-apply. Meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
