COMMUNITY SAFE ROUTES COMMITTEE Monday May 18, 2026 6:00 PM MEETING WAS HELD IN PERSON MINUTES CSRC Attendees: Steven Badger, Angela Dietrich, Robin Fatzinger, Connie Gronemus, Danica Larson, and Eileen McCartney CSRC Not Present: Gary Lindahl Staff Present: Howard Crofoot Public Attendees: None 1) Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. 2) Approval of Minutes: a . A motion was made by Danica and seconded by Eileen to approve the April 20, 2026 minutes. Motion passed. 3) Citizen Comments, Observations, & Petitions: Angela Dietrich said that this was her last meeting. She was resigning from the School District position to take another job elsewhere. 4) Old Business a. Bike-Pedestrian crash history. April – 2 crashes. Water St: Pedestrian on the sidewalk at night. Vehicle backed out of the driveway and ran over the pedestrian’s leg. Driver cited for unsafe backing. Pedestrian suffered a broken leg. Camp and Eastman: Juvenile bicyclist was on Eastman and did not stop at Camp Street. Juvenile struck the passenger side of a vehicle westbound on Camp. b. Review of May 2025 Goals as amended in February 2026, specifically any recommendations for the 2027 budget. The CSRC had a discussion and asked for a review of C 31 3) – Pitt Street, Sylvia Street and Second Street intersection. Asked the City to consider a designated crosswalk north – south on the west side of Second Street as it crosses Sylvia Street. Also asked to consider relocating the Stop sign on Sylvia to balance visibility for drivers vs. room for pedestrians to cross Sylvia Street. 5) New Business: a. Goal C16: Improve Safety on the Platteville Public Library block. CSRC reviewed the report by Warco on the use of the bus stop in the 2025-2026 school year. No safety concerns. Intend to use the same location in 2026-2027. Reviewed suggestion by Gary Lindahl to possibly move the stop onto the 15 mph section of Main Street or in front of City Hall. Consensus was to leave it alone for this upcoming year. b. Student Bike Parking Concern: Student wrote an email to Council President Daus stating that in many areas there is little bike parking infrastructure. He asked that the City consider education or incentives to improve bike parking facilities in these areas. CSRC reviewed it and determined that possibly in the fall, work with Momentum Bikes to have a survey of bicyclists to see which areas might need more infrastructure. Motion passed.
