Meeting conducted by (name and title): Beth Hedengren, chair
Number in attendance: approximately 40 attended in person. 31 signed in but over 40 people
were in attendance and many did not sign the roll, including me There were also 9
people who joined via Zoom.
All neighborhood district members were present except Leah, who was excused.
Public Comment: Two members of the council, Travis Hoban and George Handley, took
questions at the beginning.
Question about how we can get more clean energy in Provo. George talked about the city’s
strategies to increase Provo’s reliance on solar and other sources of clean energy.
Question about growth and pressures on transportation and energy—why are we building so
many single-family homes? Concern there are too many apartments being built and not enough
starter homes. Travis talked about the importance of good planning. George talked about the
importance of smart land use policy and transit and active transportation.
Question about plans for homelessness. George talked about plans that are being explored by
the council.
Question about how to bikeability. Travis talks about how city is trying to make it more of
priority.
Question about 1500 W. Travis talked about decision to not connect the street to 2000 S in
Orem.
Beth reported on District 4 projects.
• Lions Park hillside fire hazard reduction project.
• Carterville intersection: Gordon talked how they want to test out the changes for a year.
• 1500 W-2000 S issue: Gordon talked about the resolution and conceptual design, and
the process. Some discussion of canal and flooding concerns.
Noise levels at LaVell Edwards Stadium: also concerns about light pollution.
Rotary Park parking lot update: asphalt will be poured soon.
Public Comment:
• Temple parking is hugely excessive. We need reform of parking minimums.
• We need enforcement of over-occupancy.
• Trees hanging over the Carterville Road.
• Question about the status of the south Grandview hillside.
After the meeting, a BYU Urban Planning student who attended said she was surprised by how
exciting it was and that it was "Like a reality TV show!"
