Electoral Board

Radford City Electoral Board Minutes April 28, 2022 Meeting called to order at 9:55 am. Members present: Guy Wohlford (Chairman), Joe Mannon (Secretary) and Ann Craig (Vice Chair). Also present were Tracy Howard (Director of Elections) and Janet Parrish (Assistant to DOR). Motion was made by Mr. Mannon to approve the minutes of February 8, 2022 meeting. Motion seconded by Mrs. Craig, with a yes from Mr. Wohlford. Old Business: Recommendation for change of West Precinct from Carter Street Methodist Church, which doesn’t meet the State requirements. We had selected three location possibilities….Church of God, Compassion Church Radford and Gethsemane Baptist. The only location that responded favorably was the Compassion Church Radford. Discussion was held, and a motion was made by Mrs. Craig that Mr. Howard contact the City Council to replace Carter Street Methodist with Compassion Church Radford. Motion seconded by Mr. Mannon, with a yes from Mr. Wohlford, and Director of Elections Howard will contact City Council of our recommendation. Mr. Howard informed the Board that there is a process that City Council will use to enable the change of Precincts to be in place for the November elections. Mr. Howard said that a new voting tabulator has been ordered, and will be available for the November election. New Business: Mr. Howard informed the Board that Radford will not have a Primary election in June. Mr. Mannon will contact the Officers of Election to let them know that our next election will be in November. Discussion held concerning the November ballot, including possible candidates for the City Council and School Board. A special election will be held, to fill a seat that was vacated this year on City Council. We do not know, at this time, how the candidates/winner will be determined. Mrs. Craig asked about the CAP ballot counting, and whether cameras are located in that area. Mr. Howard verified that there are cameras in that area. Discussion also held about the new laws that become effective on July 1 and in October. Mr. Howard informed the Board that the City of Radford has offered early retirement to eligible employees, and that he is considering accepting it. If he does accept, he will work through the end of this calendar year. Discussion by everyone present, with Mr. Howard agreeing to let the Board know his decision, sometime in May. Meeting adjourned at 11:00am on motion by Mannon, with second by Wohlford.
