City of Radford Electoral Board Minutes of Public Meeting December 9, 2024 Chairwoman Ann Craig called the December meeting of the City of Radford Electoral Board to order at 3:32 p.m. on December 9, 2024, at 619 2nd Street, Radford, Virginia. Present were Chairwoman Craig, Vice Chairman Chris Quesenberry, and Secretary Carol Colby, as well as General Registrar Lindsey Williams and Chief Deputy Registrar Missy Mayweather. The Board and Mrs. Williams discussed the handling of Envelopes 1A following future elections. No action was taken. The Board also discussed recommendations from other localities for convening the provisional votes meeting at the start of canvass. Report of General Registrar Mrs. Williams asked Secretary Colby to sign certificates of the newly-elected officials. She informed the Board that the next meeting it needs to hold will be in the first week of February. She informed the Board that Deputy Registrar Janet Parrish tendered her resignation effective December 20, after having served in the office for nearly 12 years. All agreed that she was an asset to the office and will be missed. The Board and Mrs. Williams discussed next steps in the hiring process to fill the position vacated by Mrs. Parrish. The Board and Mrs. Williams discussed difficulties during the November election with respect to verifying IDs for voters wanting to register on election day. Mrs. Williams informed the Board that operations necessary to carry out same-day registrations have caused her office to exceed its budget. She informed the Board that she had reached out with her concerns to the local state delegate, who told her that several other localities had also expressed similar concerns. She hopes that the Virginia General Assembly will provide additional funding to carry out the requirements of the law permitting same-day registrations. The meeting was adjourned at 3:57 p.m. The Board will next meet on February 3, 2025, at 3:30 p.m.
