They discussed potential projects for the town, including Crosswalk Art and creative solutions for the Bird Sanctuary signage. ITEM F.2. Date: June 26, 2024 To: Board of Commissioners From: Margaret Carey, Town Clerk Re: Town Logo Update At the May 8, 2024 Regular meeting, the Commissioners discussed updating the official Town logo. A graphic artist was engaged to update the current logo to reflect the desires of the Commission. A draft of the updated logo is attached. CHALLENGE THE TOWN OF REDINGTON SHORES, FLORIDA, HAS REQUESTED AN UPDATE TO THEIR TOWN LOGO/SEAL. THE AIM IS TO EMPHASIZE NATURE BY ADDING A SEA TURTLE AND A BLACK SKIMMER IN FLIGHT TO ALIGN WITH THEIR SLOGAN, "NATURE’S BEACH." ADDITIONALLY, THE TREES IN THE LOGO SHOULD BE MODIFIED TO APPEAR LESS SHAGGY. THE UPDATED LOGO NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED IN FORMATS FOR USE ACROSS DIGITAL AND ANALOG CHANNELS, INCLUDING ONE THAT CAN EASILY BE MODIFIED FOR USE ON EMBROIDERED CLOTHING/ MERCHANDISE. THE FINAL ASSETS SHOULD BE DELIVERED IN VECTOR FORMAT (.AI) AS WELL AS HIGH-RESOLUTION EXPORT FILES. Upon further investigation, and contact with FDEP, we realized that there are no state, county, or local laws stating that pedestrians must stay off the dunes. The FDEP employee that we spoke with said that we could post signage; however, it would need to be more “informative” than “enforceable”. We were also given the following restrictions in terms of signage: 1) Don’t use concrete for the base or you will have to apply for a Coastal Construction Control Line Permit from the State (https://floridadep.gov/CCCL). Just drive the pile into the sand. Single post is exempt from permit requirements 2) Keep signs/posts spaced 7 ft apart to be turtle-friendly 3) Don’t put signs within 5 ft of seawalls or other structures as turtles can get stuck between the structure and the post. 4) Do not cite Florida Statutes 161.053 or 161.242, or Rule Chapter 62B-33 of the Florida Administrative Code as these coastal construction regulations do not prohibit foot traffic on dunes. DEP does not endorse specific wording of educational or informational signs advising beachgoers to “keep off the dunes – dune restoration in progress.” It needs to say something like “Please keep our dunes healthy and do not disturb our native vegetation” The staff has reached a dilemma of wanting to protect the dunes and native vegetation along our beaches while also ensuring that we stay within our authoritative bounds. With the language and enforcement restrictions, staff recommend that no action be taken in creating and posting new signage. ITEM F.4. Date: June 26, 2024 To: Board of Commissioners From: Mike McGlothlin, Town Administrator Re: Audit Presentation Accounting staff will present a summary of our annual audit. Supporting documentation will be provided prior to the meeting. ITEM F.5. ITEM F.6. Date: June 26, 2024 To: Board of Commissioners From: Margaret Carey, Town Clerk Re: Speed Table At the June 12, 2024 Regular Meeting, Commissioner Kapper expressed interest in discussing the possibility of installing a speed table on 175th Avenue to control speeding vehicles. A speed table is a raised area in the middle of the road that is designed to slow down vehicles. They are made asphalt or rubber that cover the width of the road and are placed in residential areas.
