CITY OF RIDGECREST QUALITY OF LIFE City Council Chambers March 7, 2023 100 West California Avenue 5:30 PM Ridgecrest, CA 93555 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES City of Ridgecrest Quality of Life meetings are OPEN to public attendance. Although Chambers are OPEN, public participation is still encouraged via Web-x, call-in, or via written correspondence. PLANNING COMMISSION: Eric Bruen, Mayor; Scott Hayman, Mayor Pro Tem; Vanessa Hayman, Planning Commissioner; Megan Richter, Planning Commissioner CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL – All present APPROVAL OF AGENDA APPROVAL OF MINUTES PUBLIC COMMENTS OF ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA NEW BUSINESS Pool Townhall – See the attached comments/questions from the community OLD BUSINESS ITEMS FROM THE DIRECTOR COMMITTEE COMMENTS FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ADJOURNMENT - 7:30 PM City of Ridgecrest Quality of Life Page 1 of 1 Community provided input and questions for the pool townhall Suggestions • Need shade over the pool • Need bleachers with shade • Provide a street / overpass / walkway to the park from the pool • Explore how to heat the water instead of using natural gas • Needs timers / wiring / scoreboards for meets • More than one pool is the best option • Make sure to gather information from older community members • Make sure it is ADA compliant and is going to meet the needs of the community • Strongly encourages not to overdue the baby pools because we have the Splash Pad already • Explore techniques used to reserve water as it is a current issue. • Caution anything where water is being thrown in the air • Make sure to provide ample security to the facility Questions • Will an operation plan and maintenance operation cost for each feature be provided? o Yes, a cost breakdown for cost/maintenance/operation will be provided and reviewed prior to settling on particular features • Is this a rebuild of the current Pinney Pool building and pool? o This is not a rebuild of Pinney Pool, this is a demolition and reconstruction of a new and larger pool complex • When do you estimate the pool is complete? o End of 2024 early 2025 is when we hope to have the first swimmer in the water • All season pools? o Some features of the complex will be able to be used year around • Out of the 410 people who took the survey was there a targeted audience? o Anyone who was interested in providing input was welcome to take the survey. It was posted online, talked about in meetings, and provided a lot of really great feedback on what the community would like to see in a pool facility. • Will the pool still be a memorial for SGT. John Pinney?. Will we reach out to family to consult them? Will the family be at the ribbon cutting? o Yes, the city still plans on providing memorial to SGT. John Pinney and his family will be invited to the ribbon cutting. • What is the budget? o 12-million-dollar budget Boards and interactive design plans were available for community members to write on, mark their favorite features, as well as show what they would like the complex to look like.
