We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its status as a Senior-Friendly Community. SPEAKER CARDS--If you wish to address the Commission on Aging, please complete and submit a speaker card to a Staff Member. Speaker cards can be found with the Staff Member. Speaker cards will be accepted until conclusion of Oral Communications from the Audience. In accordance with the Public Records Act, any information you provide on this form is available to the public. Accessibility to Meetings: The City of Riverside wishes to make all of its public meetings accessible to the public. Upon request, this agenda will be made available in appropriate alternative formats to persons with disabilities, as required by 42 U.S.C. §12132 of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Call to Order, Pledge & Introductions: Welcome new Commission members! Oral Communications from the Audience This is an opportunity for members of the public to address the Commission on any subject matter that is within the Commission's jurisdiction. Each member of the public will be given three (3) minutes to speak on any item on the agenda or on any subject matter that is within the Commission's jurisdiction. You will be asked to state your name and city of residence. City of Riverside Page 1 Printed on 8/31/2017 Commission on Aging Agenda September 12, 2017 Approval of Minutes 1 Meeting Minutes for July 11th, 2017 Attachments: Commission on Aging minutes July 11, 2017 Update Reports and Announcements Discussion Items 2 Senior Day Debrief - Commissioners to provide feedback on the Senior Day event, capture lessons learned and identify any tasks needed to close out the event for 2017. 3 Boat Float - Discussions about event scheduled for Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Fairmount Park. Commissioners will review progress to date, discuss tasks remaining, assign duties and allocate resources not to exceed $500, if appropriate. 4 Board Attendance: Vicki Broach - Commissioners will review the board attendance policy and discuss concerns. 5 Draft letter protecting senior rights - The Commission will discuss a potential change in federal regulation impacting a senior's right to sue a nursing home and consider if the Commission would like to send a pre-emptive letter to the President or appropriate federal agency. 6 Brown Act Training - The City Attorney's office will present a workshop on the Brown Act to Commissioners.
