ROME CITY COMMISSION
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
Thursday, July 20, 2023
The Rome City Commission met at 10:00 a.m. this date for a Special Called Meeting in the City
Commission Chambers of City Hall, 601 Broad Street. Mayor Stevenson presided with
Commissioners Bojo, Beeman, McDaniel, Doss, Quick, and Collins present. Mayor Pro Tem
Cochran and Commissioner Askew were absent.
2023 Tax Mill Rate – Public Hearing #2
City Manager Rich reported that the Finance Committee has recommended that the City of Rome
adopt a 2023 Tax Rate in the total amount of 26.45 mills. This is a decrease from the 2022 Tax
Rate of 27.076. The proposal is to lower the City M & O rate from 8.0 to 7.80. The proposal also
lowers Rome’s Capital Project rate from 1.826 to 1.80 and the City School rate from 17.25 to
16.85. Since this lowered rate is not at the “rollback rate”, a tax increase is occurring.
Mayor Stevenson called a public hearing to order. Speaking concerning the proposed rate was
Norma Roboredo, Rome, GA. Ms. Roboredo thanked the City Commission for lowering the
millage rate, however the schools will be collecting more taxes than the previous year, and she
feels that these school taxes are excessively high. With there being no further comment, Mayor
Stevenson closed the public hearing.
Adjourn
With there being no further business, Mayor Stevenson adjourned the meeting at 10:05 a.m.
Joseph F. Smith
City Clerk
