Minutes of the Cemetery Board Meeting
Tuesday, October 17, 2017
REGULAR MEETING 4:00 P.M

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by President, Jack Ferguson. Committee members Trujillo,
Bloodhart, Hurley, and Casaus were present.
Approval of Agenda
Mr. Casaus moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mr. Trujillo was the second. A voice vote was
unanimous and the motion carried, the October 17, 2017 agenda was approved.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Trujillo made a motion, seconded by Mr. Hurley, to approve the minutes of the September 19, 2017
meeting. A voice vote was unanimous and the motion carried.

Non-Action Items
2. Sexton’s Report-
Superintendent Ruben Esquivel reported 34 burials for the month of September. As of October 17, 2017
a total of 11 services had been conducted.
3. Bookkeeper’s Report-
Cemetery Administrative Assistant Daisy Diaz reported 1 transfers of property, and 2 pay offs for
September. As of October 17, 2017 a total of 1 lot sale, and 1 pay off.
4. Cancellation of Cemetery Tour-
Ruben Esquivel reported that Nancy Williams with KAPS (Kids Arts Programs) had contacted him to
advise him that the KAPS members had decided that the cemetery tour would be a no go this year. Mrs.
Williams would be in contact with Mr. Esquivel for any future changes.
5. Funding for Columbarium Project-
Board members expressed that they continue to receive feedback regarding the committal shelter was
still negative, but the public would support and like to see columbarium’s placed in South Park
Cemetery.
A motion was made by Mr. Bloodhart to not continue with a proposal with a committal shelter. Mr.
Trujillo was second. A voice vote was unanimous and motion carried.
A motion was made by Mr. Bloodhart to carry on with the placement of a columbaria at South Park
Cemetery. Mr. Trujillo was second. A voice vote was unanimous and motion carried.
Other Business
Mr. Jim Burress Parks and Recreation Director expressed idea about bring a Gold Star Monument to
Roswell. A Gold Star Monument is a black granite monument featuring two sides, and is a memorial to
honor families, and preserve the memory of the fallen. One side displays the words: Gold Star Families
Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who have sacrificed a Loved One for
our Freedom. The other side tells a story through four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and
Sacrifice. The scenes on each panel are a reflection of each community’s Gold Star Families and their
fallen Heroes.
