ROSWELL COMMISSION ON AGING Minutes January 21, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 3:00 PM at the senior Circle facility at 2801 North Main. Members present were Bob McCrae Tom Dunlap, Bonnie Montgomery and Lynne Ybarra. Julie Adams and Charlie Phillips were absent due to medical issues. Our guest was Daryl Davenport. There were fifteen individuals in the audience. Approval of the minutes was moved to the end of the agenda. Bonnie Montgomery shared a hand out from AB C News entitle4d, “How Women Can Avoid Costly Social Security Errors”. Marifrank Daharb discussed the mission and programs of Senior Circle sponsored by the parent company of Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. She gave a tour of the facility. Mr. Davenport, southeast New Mexico’s representative on the Commission on Aging and Long Term Care updated us on the Commission’s work and goals. Bob McCrea explained that there was no time to submit legislation regarding state support for medical transportation for rural communities needing to travel to Albuquerque for adequate medical care. Our representatives are working on the issue for the next legislative session. Betty Hughes explained her letter to Tom Dunlap regarding the dearth of long providers and facilities for the continuum of care for seniors with declining health and self-help abilities. Tom Dunlap updated the Commission on medical transportation offered by the Salvation Army. AARP has stated that New Mexico is the worst in the country for emergency care. Also, sixty percent of the grandparents in Roswell are raising their grandchildren. Regarding the minutes, the City is missing several minutes from Feb. 2014 to the present. The Chairperson asked all the members to check their papers. Bonnie has one or two she wrote. Charlie has missed several meetings. Lynne will check with her.
