Members Absent: Monica Duran
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lynne Ybarra
at 3 p.m.
Roll Call: Commissions introduced themselves to guests.
March 17, 2016 minutes: Prior to approval, two corrections were noted:
1. The date changed to March 17
2. Tom Dunlap is Vice-Chairman
Discussion regarding transportation: Mr. McCrea announced that he had talked
with Rep. Wooley. Mr. Wooley stated that obtaining a van was a probability. The
downside is no funding to cover costs for drivers, gasoline, and liability insurance.
There is a possible solution by working with the Chaves County JOY Center. Mr.
McCrea will contact Monica Duran, Executive Director, Chaves County JOY Center.
Mr. McCrea is also keeping in touch with Senator Burt.
Discussion regarding Nursing home evictions: Mr. Dunlap noted nursing home
administrators can attempt to evict a resident due to:
1. Failure to pay rent
2. Behavioral issues
3. A resident becomes physically abusive.
Once removed from the property, a resident cannot return. In his lay capacity,
Mr. Dunlap says that one can refuse to leave. Behavioral issues: consult with a
physician. There are two state-operated nursing homes: 1. Las Vegas 2. Ft. Baird/
Silver City. The Veterans Hospital is a federally operated facility. For those seeking
available sites, go to www.aplaceformom.com.
Discussion regarding Broookdale allegations: In attendance was John Galzerano,
District Manager for Brookdale who addressed specific issues.
Discussion regarding Alzheimer locater bracelets: Lisa Dunlap, Roswell Daily
Record has been in contact with M.S. Baker, Chaves County Sheriff’s Office.
Monica Duran will coordinate with that office. She will also ask city officials about
initiating Silver Alerts when necessary.
Discussion regarding Senior Forum: Mr. Dunlap announced that plans are
underway for broadcasting this service to the Roswell area. The date will be
announced in the Roswell Daily Record.
Commissioner comments: Mr. Dunlap encouraged area residents to attend the
annual Baby Boomer Conference held every February at the Civic Center.
Next meeting: July 21, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., Senior Circle.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
4:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Montgomery
Secretary
