Roswell Commission on Aging Minutes January 26, 2017 Brookdale Country Club 2801 N. Kentucky Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Lynne Ybarra at 3 p.m. Roll Call: Commissioners introduced themselves to guests. Members Present: Lynne Ybarra Monica Duran Robert McCrea Bonnie Montgomery Renee Swickard November 17, 2016 minutes: Monica Duran made a motion to approve the minutes: motion seconded by Renee Swickard. The minutes were approved. Action Item: a. Call for nominations to succeed Tom Dunlap, Vice-Chairman. Bonnie Montgomery made a motion to nominate Bob McCrea to serve as Vice- Chairman. The motion was seconded by Lynne Ybarra; the vote was 5 to 0. Motion passed. Bob McCrea accepted the position of Vice-Chairman. b. Call for nominees to fulfill open position of Commissioner: no names were submitted. The position remains open until January 31, 2017. Discussion regarding decrease in funding to Chaves County JOY Center: Monica Duran informed commissioners and guests that the JOY Center has one additional cut to their budget; one staff position had to be severed. Transportation has also been curtailed. Staff is seeking one more volunteer driver. The Chaves County JOY Center serves meals to 600 people each day. Their Adult Day Care Center is currently serving 19 local residents and has a short waiting list. Leprino has offered the opportunity to apply for a grant for equipment for the center. Roswell Commission on Aging Minutes, January 26, 2017 Page 2 Community comments: Brookdale Country Club, 2801 N. Kentucky, will host Business After Hours and an Open House on February 9, 2017. On-site staff announced a new option for seniors: a small studio apartment can be rented for $29.50 a day; a larger studio for $34.00 a day; and a large one-bedroom apartment for $41.00 a day. One meal a day is included along with once a month housekeeping service. All of the facility at 2801 N. Kentucky is designated ‘Independent Living.’ Occupants currently in Assisted Living will be relocated to Brookdale Country Club at 2725 N. Pennsylvania. Staff announced that there has been no outbreak of Legionnaire’s Disease; all water for internal use is certified to meet industry standards. Commissioner’s comments:  The JOY Center will send representatives to the New Mexico Legislature’s Senior Day.  Attorney Bob McCrea has agreed to handle Tom Dunlap’s pending / open cases.  Bonnie Montgomery announced that there will be a celebration of Tom Dunlap’s life at a later date. The public will be informed via The Roswell Daily Record.  Baby Boomer Conference will be February 25, 2017. All commissioners will participate in a forum led by attorney Bob McCrea.  April 26, 2017: The JOY Center will host a ‘Lawyer Referral’ event. Those attending will be able to have private consultations with local attorneys.  Senior Forum: The date in August has not yet been set. Lynne Ybarra will contact First Baptist Church for an exact time that Cableone will broadcast the forum.
