Roswell Commission on Aging Minutes September 28, 2017 Senior Circle 3:00 p.m. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chair Robert McCrea at 3 p.m. Roll Call: Chair Robert McCrea stated that a quorum had been established. Chair McCrea introduced new Commissioners Marifrank DaHarb and Chelsea Seaton. Approval of Agenda: approved by acclamation. Members Present: Marifrank DaHarb Monica Duran Robert McCrea Bonnie Montgomery Chelsea Seaton Renee Swickard Lynne Ybarra Approve the minutes of August 9, 2017 minutes: Lynne Ybarra made a motion to approve the minutes; motion seconded by Robert McCrea. The minutes were unanimously approved. Action Item: Election a. Bonnie Montgomery is resigning the position of Secretary for the Commission. Marifrank DaHarb was nominated to serve as Secretary. A roll call vote was taken; all Commissioners voted that Ms. DaHarb be elected Secretary. Ms. DaHarb accepted. Discussion: increase in transportation requests to JOY Center from Brookdale residents: Ms. Duran stated that the requests have ceased. Chair McCrea will follow-up with Brookdale’s policy. Review of Senior Forum, August 28, 2017: Commissioners and guests expressed gratitude to Chair McCrea and Ms. Duran for their participation. Due to a lapse in audio, Ms. Ybarra will ask if a DVD was made that recorded the discussion. Consideration was given to Commission on Aging giving a presentation at the annual Baby Boomer Conference. Commission on Aging September 28, 2017 Page 2 Community comments: 1. Transportation to and from Albuquerque is available only via private driver/ taxi service. Medicaid does provide transportation via Safe Ride to Medicaid recipients. 2. Ms. DaHarb asked if the Commission would consider asking a representative of Roswell’s Pecos Trails to give a presentation at a future date. 3. Uber in Roswell: Ms. Seaton will investigate. Commissioner comments: 1. Unnamed source reported that kitchen staff at Peachtree was dispensing medications at meal service. 2. Ms. Duran announced that a representative from New Mexico Department of Aging & Long-Term Care will host a legal workshop on November 20, JOY Center. 3. Ms. Duran informed commissioners and guests that reimbursement payments to the JOY Center are often delayed; this action creates a financial problem for the JOY Center.
