Page 1 of 2 City of Roswell Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes Monday June 30, 2014 6:00 p.m. – City Hall Conference Room I. Call To Order Chair, Bob Edwards, called the June 30, 2014, meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. II. In Attendance The following were present: Members: Bob Edwards, James Edwards, Mandy Owens, Jim Waldrip, Roy Gunn, Jane Ann Oldrup, and Barry Mathison Staff: Tim Williams Guest: Keith Paceley, Jane Batson, Tim Rogers, Deborah Guluska, Shenea Owens, Judy Stubbs, Perry Toles, Donna Ellis, and Juan Oropesa III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Jane Ann Oldrup made a motion, seconded by Roy Gunn, to approve the agenda as presented. All were in favor, motion carried, the June 30, 2014, agenda was approved. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Jane Ann Oldrup made a motion, seconded by James Edwards, to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried, the May 19, 2014, minutes were approved. V. COMMUNITY COMMENTS There were no community comments. VI. THE REQUEST FOR RENAMING MISSOURI AVE. PARK Deborah Guluska spoke on behalf of the Altrusa group which has been part of Roswell since 1947. Barry Mathison motioned to recommend the commission rename the Missouri Ave Park the Altrusa Park, Mandy Owens Seconded the motion, six were in favor and 1 was opposed. Page 2 of 2 VII. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE BIKE TRAIL Jane Batson brought in Tim Rogers a bike specialist to give a presentation on the possibilities and benefits a bike/walking trail could bring to Roswell. After Mr. Rogers gave his presentation Bob Edwards showed the Commission the ideas he has. Keith Paceley asked the Commission if the law would be revised. Jane Batson stated that she is willing to write grants for the Commission to get this going. Jane Ann Oldrup motioned to look further into the bike trail project, Mandy Owens seconded the motion and all were in favor. VIII. STAFF REPORTS a. Splash pad information Tim Williams stated a spray pad is a safe addition to a park. He and the Mayor will be working together to add a few to the town. b. Information on Yucca Yucca Center was built in 1911. It is not ada compliant so starting tomorrow the main floor will be the only level open. There have been citizens wanting to help to maintain the center. Staff members are looking into new developments whether its better to remodel the existing building or get a new building. c. Cahoon Pool Update Mr. Williams is looking it to the best way to manage the pool. The contract with USA Pools expires on Labor Day $137,000 is what USA Pools is being paid as well as revenue. d. Upcoming Events Comic on fest is going on now. UFO festival is July 3-6. Fireworks are July 4th at Ceilo Grande. Alien Chase is on the 5th. Senior Olympics July 16-19. Roswell District 2 little league tournament first weekend in July. IX. UNFINISHED BUSINESS No unfinished business X. NEW BUSINESS No new Business XI. CONSIDER AND SET NEXT MEETING DATE July 28th, 2014 at 6pm XII. ADJOURNMENT Meeting adjourned at 8:02 pm.
