MINUTES OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
November 16, 2015
REGULAR MEETING 6:00 P.M.
Call to Order
Chair, Bob Edwards, called the November 16, 2015 meeting to order at 6:04 p.m.
In Attendance
The following were present:
Members: Chair Bob Edwards, Vice Chair Mandy Owens, Barry Mathison, James Edwards,
JaneAnn Oldrup, and Roy Gunn.
Staff Present included Parks and Recreation Director Tim Williams, Parks Superintendent Jim
Burress, Damian Cheatem, and Administrative Assistant Lisa Rosales.
Approval of Agenda
James Edwards made a motion, seconded by JaneAnn Oldrup, to approve the agenda as
presented. All were in favor motion carried, the November 16, 2015 agenda was approved.
Approval of Minutes
James Edwards made a motion, seconded by JaneAnn Oldrup, to approve the September 21,
2015 minutes as presented, all were in favor and motion carried, the September 21, 2015
minutes were approved.
Non-Action Items
2. Youth Sports Participation Numbers- Damian Cheatem
Damian Cheatem gave a report with a print out of the League Participant numbers for the past
3 years. Barry Mathison stated that the numbers for 2015 Noon Optimist Little League was off
by 13.
3. Report on Upcoming Events- Laurie Jerge
Mr. Williams spoke on Laurie Jerge’s behalf, youth basketball will be starting in the next week
or so, Reindeer Run on December 5, Breakfast with Santa at the Adult Center on December 12th
at 9 am, and Park and Recreation Christmas Luncheon will be December 11, 2015 at the Adult
Center. On May 7th and 8th Cinco De Mayo is replacing Party on the River. It will be a huge event
free to the public. Fall Festival had 3,700 visitors from 2 to 5. Parks and Recreation submitted
10 award nominations to NMRPA and won 8 awards.
4. Park Update- Jim Burress
Mr. Burress stated that the crew are working on cleaning up the inside of the Pro Shop and they
just finished Cielo Grande. Parks Crew cleaned up Main Street. Mr. Burress stated the Parks
crew will complete each project 100% before going to the next project. The department is also
working with Missouri Ave School to help them with their trees. The Enchanted Lands signs will
be fixed, as well as 82 trees will be planted.
Other Business
Public Comments
Bob Edwards stated Romo Villegas said Diane Taylor picked up a check for $1,500 in which he
thought it was for the Sign at the Golf Course.
Adjourn
JaneAnn Oldrup made a motion, seconded by Roy Gunn to adjourn the meeting, all were in
favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
