Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes Monday March 18, 2013 @ 4:00 pm Bassett Auditorium MEMBERS PRESENT: Jimi Gadzia, Joyce Tucker, Fatima Barnes, Jason Garcia, Rey Berrones, Bob Phillips, Tom Tutor MEMBERS ABSENT: Melinda Gonzalez, Ivan Hall, Sashua Patton, Carolyn Sidd OTHERS PRESENT: Laurie Rufe, Jeanine Corn-Best, Barbara Patterson, Tracy Hutcherson CALL TO ORDER: 4:03 PRESIDENT’S REMARKS: Jimi Gadzia, President Welcome to Jason Garcia, the new Board of Trustees member. Sashua Patton has also been approved by the City and should be at our next meeting. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Tom Tutor moved to accept the minutes, Fatima Barnes seconded: all were in favor and the motion carried without dissent. FINANCIAL REPORT: Deborah Melancon, Bookkeeper. Inclusion of budget and fiscal year to date expenses – given by Laurie Rufe in Deborah Melancon’s absence. MEMBERSHIP REPORTS: Tracy Hutcherson, Membership Coordinator Inclusion of February Membership and Visitors Report. EDUCATION COMMITTEE: None. ACQUISITIONS COMMITTEE: None. MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: None. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: 1. Positions filled and vacant – The Curator of Collections and Exhibitions position is currently vacant following the resignation of Andrew John Cecil on March 5. This position has been posted with a deadline of April 12. Applications for the Director’s position will be available Monday 3/25. Marge Bentley, RISD Planetarium Director, will be gone for 6-8 weeks. Past Planetarium Director and RISD School Board Member, Jim Waldrip, will fill in for her to teach her Astronomy Classes. 2. Upcoming Programs – Meredith Bennett is developing a week-long program for Spring Break (April 1-5) that will join gallery experiences with art making, drama, poetry, and literature. She is also working on the Spring Class Schedule and the Spring Film Series (April 4, 11, 18 and 25) that screens four independent films that focus on stories of unlikely friendships. Slow Art Day – is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 11 am – 1 pm. Meredith is also working on this program, taking the reins from Laurie. Kenna and Laurie have been in discussion with Holly Huber, art instructor at New Mexico Military Institute, to provide museum studies and conservation programming for her students. They hope to embark on this association in the fall, both here at the museum and in the classroom. Our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast is scheduled for Friday, April 12, at 9:30 am. Please join us as we celebrate our volunteers – you! 1 NEW BUSINESS: None. OTHER BUSINESS: NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Will get together soon for nominations for upcoming openings on the board.
