CALL TO ORDER Chair Cymantha Liakos called the annual meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 3:02 p.m. B. ROLL CALL The annual meeting of the Board of Trustees convened with members Cymantha Liakos, Donovan Fulkerson, Bill Siders, Anne Baker, Jessica Parham, Kay Cargill Jenkins and Valli West being present. A quorum was established with members Peggy Krantz, Jamie Barnes, Lorrina Segovia, and Priscilla Ornelas being absent. Staff present: Caroline Brooks, Executive Director; Aubrey Hobart, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions; Amanda Nicholson, Curator of Education; Jeremy Howe, Planetarium Coordinator; Amberly Meli, Registrar; Wendy Cook, Communications and Events Coordinator; and Cindy Torrez, Executive Director RMAC Foundation. Community members present: none. C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Parham motioned to approve the agenda. Member Baker seconded. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed with members Krantz, Barnes, Segovia and Ornelas being absent. D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Member Parham motioned to approve the minutes for the March 18, 2019, board meeting. Member West seconded. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed with members Krantz, Barnes, Segovia and Ornelas being absent. E. DISCUSSION AND CONSIDER APPROVAL OF MUSEUM MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM CHANGES Director Brooks discussed proposed membership structure and fee changes supported by the membership working group. The proposal presented a cap of membership at the $100 level and removal of the upper levels ranging from $250 to $1000. Motion to approve new membership levels ending at the $100 level was made by member Fulkerson. Member Baker seconded. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed with members Krantz, Barnes, Segovia and Ornelas being absent. Director Brooks shared the proposed updated membership fees. Member Parham motioned to approve the fee structure. Member West seconded. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed with members Krantz, Barnes, Segovia and Ornelas being absent. F. SUMMARY OF 2018 MUSEUM ACTIVITIES RMAC Staff gave a PowerPoint presentation overview of 2018 museum highlights and activities. Director Brooks opened with a look at attendance, membership, events and community reach. Registrar Amberly Meli shared information about museum acquisitions and exhibitions. New Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Aubrey Hobart briefly shared the exhibitions and community partnerships she has worked on since arriving in October. Curator of Education Amanda Nicholson gave a detailed look at museum classes and outreach activities. Finally, Planetarium Coordinator Jeremy Howe updated the board on 2018 film presentations and other planetarium educational activities including school visits. FOR THE RECORD: Member Jamie Barnes joined the meeting at 4:15p.m. G. REVIEW OF PROGESS OF 2017-2021 STRATEGIC PLAN Director Brooks shared an update of 2018 activities that advanced the museums strategic plan and vision for 2019 growth on the topics of events, programming, partnerships and a potential renovation. H. MEMBERSHIP/ATTENDANCE REPORT Director Brooks shared the March membership and attendance report. I. DIRECTOR’S REPORT 1. Virtue of Ownership The Museum opened a traveling panel exhibition organized by the African American Museum and Cultural Center on Sunday, April 7 that explores African American homesteading in New Mexico. The opening reception included a panel discussion with descendants from Blackdom and a musical performance by the Rodney Bowe Trio. The event had approximately 60 attendees and many offered requests for similar events at the museum in the future. The exhibition continues through November 24. 2. Renovation Update RMAC Foundation President Chelsea Green, Councilor Caleb Grant, Facilities Manager Kevin Dillon, and Councilor Barry Foster met for a walkthrough and discussion of the potential Museum renovation. A recommendation was made to request capital monies for the schematic and engineering phase of the project. 3. pARTY After Hours Review PARTY After Hours took place on Friday, April 12 with a theme of honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. There was a mix of Moon-inspired activities including Planetarium shows, Space Bingo, Constellation Art, and a Moon photo booth. The event also featured a cash bar presented by Red Door Brewing Company of Albuquerque, pizza and treats from Eli‘s Bistro & Bakery, music from Roswell’s Five Star DJ, prize drawings and discounted memberships. The event was generously supported by the RMAC Foundation and is aimed at expanding access to the Museum and presenting art and science as an integral part of our lives. 4. Brown Bag Talks Donovan Fulkerson gave a well-attended talk on the Roswell Film Festival’s goals and origins and presented the trailer for this year’s event at April’s Talk. In May, the Museum will be hosting Dr. James Córdova who is a professor of art history at CU Boulder and an award-winning sculptor and painter. Dr. Córdova’s studies in the field of Colonial Latin American art have helped inform his production of traditional santos (saint) figures, while his artistic sensibilities may explain the creativity of his scholarly works. 5. Family After Hours The Museum is partnering with RISD’s Arts Connect Program to present a free night of family-friendly, New Mexico-themed art activities on Thursday, May 9 from 5-8 pm at the Museum. Family After Hours aims to encourage parents to partner with their children in the arts, while building memorable, shared experiences. Additional funding for the event is provided by the RMAC Foundation. J. RMAC FOUNDATION REPORT Executive Director Torrez again shared the success of the February 23rd Mystery at the Museum fundraiser. K. CHAIR’S REMARKS AND BOARD ANNOUNCMENTS None. L.
