MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
Monday, September 27, 2021 @ 4:00 p.m.

REGULAR MEETING AT 4:00 p.m.
Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4, NMSA 1978
and Resolution 21-7.
A. CALL TO ORDER
Board Chair Liakos called the meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 4:02 p.m.
B. ROLL CALL
The meeting of the Board of Trustees convened with members Cymantha Liakos, Donovan Fulkerson, Kyle Bayless, Anne
Baker, L orrina Segovia, Kay Cargill Jenkins, and Valli West being present. Pricilla Ornelas was present via phone. A
quorum was established with member Tim Hartwick being absent.
City Council members present: Barry Foster, Liaison
Staff present: Caroline Brooks, Executive Director, and Rachelle Diaz, Public Programs Manager.
Community members present: None.
C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Member Segovia motioned to approve the agenda. Member Baker seconded. A voice vote was 8-0 and the motion
passed with member Hartwick being absent.
D. APPROVAL OF July 19, 2021 MINUTES
Member Segovia motioned to approve the minutes for the August 16, 2021 meeting. Member West seconded. A voice
vote was 8-0 and the motion passed with member Hartwick being absent.
ACTION ITEMS
E. BOT New Member Nominations
Director Brooks shared that the mayor has yet to confirm nomination of Elisa Begueria to fill Position 4, vacated by
Jessica Parham in May. For Position 8, vacated by Bill Siders in August, Brooks put forth the remaining current applicants
which include: Krisann Robles, Patrick Collins, Kate Griffo, and Lindsay Mayo Fincher. No additional applications were
received since the opening was posted by City Clerk Sharon Coll. BOT members were given an opportunity to review
applications and speak on behalf of applicants. Councillor Foster mentioned he would speak to the mayor regarding the
nomination of Elisa Begueria for Position 4. Member Jenkins motioned to recommend Kate Griffo for mayoral
consideration for Position 8. Member West seconded the motion. A voice vote was 8-0 and the motion passed with
member Hartwick being absent.

Diaz joined the museum staff on September 24, 2021.

G. RMAC FOUNDATION REPORT
RMAC Foundation Director Cindy Torrez was absent from the meeting. Director Brooks noted that the RMAC Foundation
fundraiser held on September 24 went well. Final tabulations will be released at the RMAC Foundation meeting on
October 12.
I. CHAIR’S REMARKS AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS
Member Baker shared that the Roswell Jazz Fest has been cancelled. Stellar Coffee will have a new photography
exhibition on view.
Member Liakos thanked members West and Ornelas for their donations to the silent auction in the RMAC Foundation
fundraiser.

Member Jenkins motioned to adjourn the meeting. Member Segovia seconded. A voice vote was 8-0 and the motion
passed with member Hartwick being absent.

D. APPROVAL OF July 19, 2021 MINUTES
Member West motioned to approve the minutes for the June 21, 2021 meeting. Member Hartwick seconded. A voice
vote was 6-0 and the motion passed with members Siders, Segovia, Orneals and Jenkins being absent.
For the Record: Board Chair Liakos read a resignation letter from Board Vice Chair Siders. Mr. Siders is moving out of
state next month.
For the Record: Member Segovia joined the meeting at 4:08p.m.

E. Museum Renovation Status Report
Director Brooks shared that RMAC will be receiving $340K from the state to support moving the Museum store to the
front entrance of the facility. She is working with the city to create a Master Plan via the RFP process. Master planning
may include the lobby, store, family gallery, as well as long-term needs such as expanded storage and stage restoration.
The city has offered support for new flooring and outdoor signage. Budgeting will need to include $100K in roof repairs
needed on the building.
F. Grant Funded Courtyard Mural Project
In partnership with Keep Roswell Beautiful, the Museum was awarded grant monies to create a mural in the Museum
courtyard. Artist LarryBob Phillips will be creating the piece and a small committee with be put together to determine
location and theme.

H. RMAC FOUNDATION REPORT
RMAC Foundation Director Torrez shared that the foundation fall fundraiser will be held in the Museum courtyard on
September 24th. Only 120 tickets will be sold and an online auction will be launched as a part of the event.
I. CHAIR’S REMARKS AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS
Member Baker shared that the Roswell Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place October 13th – 17th with tickets going on
sale Labor Day weekend. New this year will be a starlight offering with a discounted ticket prices for evening
performances.

Member Baker motioned to adjourn the meeting. Member Segovia seconded. A voice vote was 7-0 and the motion
passed with members Jenkins, and Orneals being absent.
