ROSWELL MUSEUM MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING Monday, November 20, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. 1011 N. Richardson Ave. Roswell, NM 88201 REGULAR MEETING AT 4:04 p.m. Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4, NMSA 1978 and Resolution 23-40. For the Record: Meeting is being streamed live for the public through GoToMeeting. There was no public on GoTo Meeting. A. CALL TO ORDER Board Chair West called the meeting of the Board of Trustees to order at 4:04 p.m. B. ROLL CALL The meeting of the Board of Trustees convened with members Elisa Begueria, Lindsay Mayo Fincher, Jane Avery Gray, Valli West, Lorrina Segovia, Nina Leacock and Kay Cargill Jenkins being present. A quorum was established with members Tim Hartwick, Anne Baker and Kate Huebner being absent. Staff present: Caroline Brooks, Executive Director, Aaron Wilder, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions & Cloe Medrano, Registrar. Community members present: Cindy Torres, Roswell Museum and Center Foundation, and Marilyn Cozzens ACTION ITEMS C. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Member Jenkins motioned to approve the agenda. Member Segovia was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. D. Approval of the October 23, 2023 meeting minutes Member Jenkins motioned to approve the October 23, 2023, meeting minutes. Member Gray was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. E. Discussion and consider approval of 2024 Board of Trustee meeting dates Member Fincher motioned to approve the 2024 Board of Trustee meeting dates. Member Begueria, was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. F. Discussion and consider approval of establishing Renovation Working Group Member Fincher motioned to approve the establishing Renovation Working Group. Member Segovia was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. G. Discussion and consider approval of loaning Jerry West's Residue of Conquest to the Amarillo Museum of Art for an exhibition honoring collector Ray Graham, taking place January 20-March 24, 2024 Member Leacock motioned to approve the loaning of Jerry West's Residue of Conquest to the Amarillo Museum of Art for an exhibition honoring collector Ray Graham, taking place January 20-March 24, 2024. Member Baker was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. H. Discussion and consider approval of the 2023-2028 Strategic Plan Member Gray motioned to approve the 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. Member Leacock was the second A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 7-0, with members Hartwick, Baker, and Huebner being absent. INFORMATION ONLY ITEMS I. BOT Nominee Status Update Director Brooks informed the board nominee, Jeni McCrea Flower, will be presented to City Council at the December board meeting. J. Renovation Updates Director Brooks informed the board the Museum recently received a state appropriation in the amount of $638,000 to allow for the completion of the move of the museum store, update of the museum’s lobby and facade, and flooring improvements. The Patricia Gaylord Anderson Gallery is the current having new flooring installed. FOR THE RECORD: Tim Hartwick arrived at 4:39 p.m. K. Director’s Report Director Brooks informed the board the flooring renovation in the Entry Gallery is mostly complete with transition strips yet to be added. The contractor, Waide Construction, has started demolition of the museum’s largest gallery, the Patricia Gaylord Anderson Gallery, by removing the temporary walls and floor decking. The joists have been reinforced and new decking (which replaces the particle board decking) is being installed. Roswell Artist-in-Residence Jess Johnson is a New Zealand-born artist whose artwork is drawn from her interests in science fiction, comics, technology, architecture, and the concept of world-building. Her exhibition, titled Honk if you don’t exist, opened with a film screening of XYZZY in the Goddard Planetarium. The Holiday Artisan Market 2023 market is currently open includes work by 31 regional artists in ceramics, painting, prints, sculpture, fiber art, photography, glass, jewelry, and woodworking and metal. The museum will hold a festive Second Saturday, on Saturday, December 9 from 10 am to 2 pm with cookies, a hot chocolate bar, holiday crafts, music by Ted Schooley, and a visit from Santa L. RMAC Foundation Report Director Torres informed the board the foundation is currently planning the spring fundraiser, with the theme most likely being New Orleans, Bourdon Street. M. Chair’s Remarks and Board Announcements None. N. Public Comment Director Brooks informed everyone former board member Bill Sider has passed away. O. Adjourn Member Fincher motioned to adjourn. Member Begueria was the second. A voice vote was unanimous, and the motion passed 8-0, with members Baker and Huebner being absent. The meeting adjourned at 5:09 p.m.
