ROSWELL PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING 4:00 p.m. May 23, 2013 Bondurant Room MEMBERS PRESENT: Marna Hunt, Magil Duran, Judy Armstrong, Patti Bristol, Linda Madrid MEMBERS ABSENT: Elizabeth Shamas, Edward David OTHERS PRESENT: Savino Sanchez, City Council Library Liaison ; Betty Long, Library Director, Jared Kallunki, Attorney, and Debra Thomas, Recording Secretary. CALL TO ORDER: Marna Hunt, President, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Members present were noted, proper quorum was met. MINUTES: President Hunt asked if there were any corrections or additions to the minutes of the previous meeting, there were none. Judy Armstrong moved to approve the April 25, 2013 minutes as presented, Magil Duran seconded, motion passed. DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Betty Long, Library Director, presented the new Summer Reading Program commercial funded by the Friends of the Library, along with the Summer Reading t-shirt which is funded by the Library Foundation. The program begins June 1st, and she encouraged everyone to sign up. The commercial will be running on KBIM and KOBR TV, along with Majestic Radio station. Also noted was the need for volunteers to work various shifts during the program, and she also said any donated gifts for the reading prizes would be appreciated. Ms. Long presented the rest of her written report on issues concerning the library. She also mentioned that the library would be adding some classic entertainment DVD’s. Another topic was the UNM Hospital project that had been proposed to Ms. Long. The project would allow family members who cannot travel to  contact (skype) patients in the hospital using an iPAD provided at the Library. The project would be for one year, beginning mid-June, but if it works well, it could be continued at no cost to the library. The project will be advertised, and Patti Bristol volunteered to also help promote the project at the hospital. REPORT OF NOMINATION COMMITTEE: Patti Bristol presented the Nomination Committee’s slate of officers for nomination: President, Marna Hunt, Vice President, Judy Armstrong, Secretary, Elizabeth Shamas. The slate contains current officers who have all agreed to serve another term in the respective offices. Ms. Hunt said the nominations would stand as presented. Patti Bristol moved to elect the slate of officers as presented, Magil Duran seconded. No discussion, motion passed. REVIEW OF POLICIES: Director Long presented the Materials Selection Policy, Request for Reconsideration Policy, Noise Policy, Policy for Bondurant Room Use, and the Policy for Displaying/Distributing Community Information which had been issued to the board members for review. Minor changes were recommended for the Materials Selection Policy, and the revised policy will be presented for approval at the next board meeting. OTHER: None.
