Roswell Public Library Board of Trustees Held at the Roswell Public Library Southeast Meeting Room October 27, 2022 Notice of this meeting was given to the public in compliance with NMSA 1978, Sections 10-15-1 through 10-15-4 and Resolution 22-14. This meeting convened at 4:05 p.m. with Member Alyssa Rogers presiding, and members Brittany Belding, Adrienne Marley, Marcos Nava, Enid Costley, Library Director, being present and Member Jennifer Cole and Janice Dunnahoo being absent. Janice Dunnahoo arrived at 4:08 p.m. Member Alyssa Rogers called for a motion for the approval of the agenda for the October 27, 2022, with the correction that the minutes being approved were for September 22, 2022. Member Adrienne Marley motioned with the correction that the minutes being approved were for the September 22, 2022, Member Marcos Nava seconded to approve the agenda. A voice vote was unanimous (Rogers-yes, Belding- yes, Dunnahoo-yes, Marley-yes, Nava-yes) and the motion passed 5-0 with Jennifer Cole absent. Member Alyssa Rogers called for a motion for the approval of the minutes of the September 22, 2022 meeting of the Roswell Public Library Board of Trustees. Member Adrienne Marley motioned and Member Marcos Nava seconded to approve the agenda. A voice vote was unanimous (Rogers-yes, Belding-yes, Dunnahoo-yes, Marley-yes, Nava-yes) and the motion passed 5-0 with Jennifer Cole absent. Non-Action Items (Information items) 1. Building Improvements Enid Costley, Library Director, summarized the building improvements: a. Roof Repair was presented to the Roswell City Council October 13, 2022 meeting. The Roswell City Council approved the use of $69,334.60 of capital improvement funds for the repair of the library roof. b. The Roswell Facilities Department will be putting together a quote for roof maintenance for all City of Roswell buildings. c. Accel Electric will do the installation of the Halo Air Filters. Work will be done in the evenings. 2. Service Improvements Enid Costley, Library Director, summarized the service improvements unless indicated that Library staff provided a presentation. a. Danika Wahlin, Reference Librarian, shared a new service she has created. Hobby Kits or a various themed kits with materials and a book to start a person off on an interest. Hobby Kits include: astronomy, badminton, baseball, calligraphy, disc golf, knitting, chess, dungeon and dragons, and Ukulele. b. The City of Roswell IT Department staff has begun replacing the library computers. We have asked that the public computers be replaced first. c. We are working with the City of Roswell IT Department for improvements to the Bondurant Room. The improvements include two large screen televisions and new sound system. d. Tasia Ramage will be contacted to create a mural near the Spanish Collection. Library staff is working with the Roswell Hispano Chamber of Commerce for ideals to celebrate Roswell Hispanic Community. e. We have two displays in the library. The New Mexico New Deal Preservation Association has loaned us art for an exhibit. Paul Clifton put together the New Deal exhibit. We also have an exhibit to celebrate Día del los Muertos. Diana Velazco did the research for the exhibit, which includes some items on loan by Robert Briggs. 3. Green Estate The buyer decided that the property donated to the library was not a good fit. The property will be back on the market 4. 316 N Richardson Property A notice that the City of Roswell is accepting bids for the 316 North Richardson Property, also known as the former Business Notions has gone out. New Business (Action items) 5. Discussion and consider for approval Fines and Fee Structure Members discussed eliminating overdue fees for items borrowed and returned in good condition. No action was taken. Library Staff Reports 6. Library Director’s Report Enid Costley, Library Director, summarized Library projects unless indicated that Library staff provided a presentation. a. Diana Velazco, Library Assistant, provided information on the upcoming Día de lost Muertos program. This included history of the La Catrina, the tall female skeleton wearing fancy hat and feathers. b. The library received a complaint about celebrating Dr. Seuss. The complaint is that some of Dr. Seuss’s children’s books depict racial, ethnic, cultural and gender differences that are insensitive. The person making the complaint was careful to share concerns after our event in 2022. There are many other wonderful children’s authors that we might celebrate. In February we will be celebrating Eric Carle, author and illustrator of the “Very Hungry Caterpillar” and other books. c. We are working with E-rate Central to apply for American Rescue Plan Act Funds for the Library Hot Spots. Member Brittany Belding left the meeting at 5:05 p.m. Public Participation on Agenda Items There was no public participation on agenda items. Adjourn The meeting adjourned at 5:14 p.m.
