Charter Review Committee September 8, 2015 Page 1 of 2 A meeting of the Charter Review Committee was held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Mahany/Meininger Center located at 3500 Marais, Royal Oak. The meeting was called to order at 5:45 p.m. by Chairperson George. PRESENT ABSENT Chairperson George (5:42 p.m.) Moore Commissioner Mahrle Richards Zukin (5:33 p.m.) Also present were Assistant City Attorney Delores Mayer, Community Engagement Specialist Judy Davids, and Richard Wilson from WROK. ***** ANNOUNCEMENTS There were no announcements. ***** PUBLIC COMMENT There was no public comment. ***** APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved by Commissioner Mahrle Seconded by Mr. Richards BE IT RESOLVED that the Minutes of July 28, 2015 are hereby approved as submitted. ADOPTED UNANIMOUSLY ***** OLD BUSINESS VOTER EDUCATION The committee will make five short film clips, each addressing a charter amendment proposal. Mr. Moore, Ms. Davids and Mr. Wilson were working out a schedule. Committee members selected the following amendments to prepare five things they felt voters should know about that proposal: Commissioner Mahrle Proposal 1 Chapter 3, Section 48 Library spending limit Mr. Moore Proposal 2 Chapter 14, Section 9 Bond thresholds Mr. George Proposal 3 Chapter 3, Sections 35 & 36 Removal of the sections Mr. Richards Proposal 4 Chapter 3, Section 19 City Manager language Ms. Zukin Proposal 5 Whole Charter Gender Neutrality Filming will start September 15, 2015. A second filming date will be set, if needed.  Charter Review Committee September 8, 2015 Page 2 of 2 Ms. Davids and Ms. Mayer prepared a letter explaining the proposals to be mailed to voters. Mr. Richards, Ms. Zukin and Commissioner Mahrle will be speaking at local organizations meetings on the proposals. ***** NEW BUSINESS There was no new business to discuss. *** Moved by Mr. Richards Seconded by Commissioner Mahrle BE IT RESOLVED that the Charter Review Committee members have excused Mr. Moore’s absence from tonight’s meeting. ADOPTED UNANIMOUSLY ***** SET MEETING DATE AND ADJOURNMNET The next meeting of the Charter Review Committee will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
