MINUTES
PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
Thursday, January 9, 2014 – 7:00 p.m.
Mahany/Meininger Senior Center
MEMBERS PRESENT: Stan Schaffer, Mike Ripinski, Rob Winter, Todd Menig,
Alex Fike and City Commissioner Fournier
ALSO PRESENT: Tod Gazetti, Greg Rassel
MEMBERS EXCUSED: None
Chairperson Menig called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
Approval of Minutes: Motion by Schaffer, seconded by Ripinski to approve the
November 7, 2013 minutes. Motion passed unanimously.
City Commission Comments: Commissioner Fournier commented that city
staff and the city commission will be getting together on January 18th for a
strategic planning session. Parks and Recreation will be on the agenda to
discuss capital improvements and selling under used parcels of land.
Public Comment: Bill Willard gave the board a history lesson on the Senior
Citizens Advisory Board and the reasoning for disbanding the current board and
placing senior business under the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He
would welcome being appointed to the current board. Mike Ripinski thanked Bill
for his many, many years of service and all he did to help seniors in Royal Oak.
Business:
a. Priority List for Park Improvements: Mr. Gazetti gave the board eight
categories of capital improvements throughout various parks in the city.
This list was also submitted for the strategic planning meeting on the 18th.
An update will be provided. Discussion followed, no action taken.
b. Consolidation of Boards: The City Commission approved staff’s report to
consolidate the Senior Citizen’s Advisory Board and the Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board. All business as it pertains to parks,
recreation, seniors, ice arena, golf and private recreational entities has
now been streamlined under the Parks
and Recreation Advisory Board.
c. Golf Course Report: Mr. Spadafore submitted a report to the board
regarding golf rounds, memberships and revenues, total golf course for
2013 was $555,524.86. Discussion followed, no action needed.

Motion by Fike and seconded by Fournier to adjourn at 8:18 p.m. Motion passed
