MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, November 5, 2015 – 7:00 p.m. John Lindell Ice Arena 1403 Lexington Blvd. MEMBERS PRESENT: Jill Robinson, Matt Harmon, Mike Ripinski, Todd Menig, Alex Fike, Amanda Klein and City Commissioner Mike Fournier. ALSO PRESENT: Tod Gazetti, Superintendent of Recreation, Gordie Schaeffler, Assistant Manager of Lindell Ice Arena MEMBERS EXCUSED: Phil Smith, Mark Ryan, Phil Kanan, Greg Rassel Meeting called to order at 7:03 p.m. I. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Ripinski, seconded by Klein, to approve the minutes of September 10, 2015. Motion passed unanimously. II. City Commission Comments: Commissioner Fournier informed the board the Commission will be looking at Parks and Recreation projects in our existing parks from three different funding sources. III. Public Comment: Wendy Thompson (323 Kenilworth) expressed the need for playground replacement at Wendland Park. This has been a 12-year request and to take out the filthy sand and replace it with FIBAR. Tom Merchant (3806 Edgeland) asked about an update for Normandy Oaks, IV. Business: a. Normandy Oaks Update: City administration and the City Commission are analyzing the proposals and should have a decision within the next two commission meetings. The city is planning to meet with the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Board to see what interest they may have at Normandy Oaks. b. Re-Leaf Project: On November 7, 2015 DTE Energy and two staff from the DPS are planting twenty (20) trees at Gunn Dyer as part of DTE’s Re-Leafing Project which is a tree replacement program. c. Tod Gazetti and Gordie Schaeffler took the board on a tour of the Lindell Arena the lobby renovations and the new Zamboni. V. Items not on the agenda: Mr. Alex Fike announced his resignation VI. Upcoming Events: The 36th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is Thursday December 3, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. @ the Farmer’s Market VII. Next Meeting – January 7, 2016 @ 7:00 p.m. @ Mahany-Meininger Community Center Motion by Fike and seconded by Klein to adjourn at 8:08 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
