MINUTES PARKS, RECREATION AND SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, October 5, 2017 – 7:00 p.m. Mahany-Meininger Senior Community Center - 3500 Marais MEMBERS PRESENT: Todd Menig, Mike Ripinski, Mark Ryan, Paul Kanan, Tim Ciechorski, Camille Thompson, Jill Robinson and City Commissioner Marie Donigan ALSO PRESENT: Tod Gazetti, Superintendent of Recreation, Greg Rassel Director of Rec. & Public Service MEMBERS EXCUSED: Jeff Plachta Meeting called to order at 7:01 p.m. I. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Ripinski, seconded by Ryan to approve the September 7, 2017 minutes. Motion passed unanimously II. City Commission Comments: None III. Public Comment: Ms. Dresbach commented on the need for a new playground at Upton park. Mr. Collins expressed his concern about the issues created by the pickleball courts; traffic, noise and the porta john at Upton park. Ms. Mathews suggested the pickleball courts be moved to Elks park. Mr. Groveland expressed his support for pickleball at both Whittier and Upton and hoped the city could find compromises for the neighbor’s concerns. IV. Business: a. Normandy Oaks Update: Mr. Ripinski informed the board there will be a Normandy Oaks Workshop on Saturday October 28th from 9:00am – 4:00pm at a location to be determined. b. Downtown Park Task Force appointees: Motion by Ripinski, seconded by Robinson to recommend the appointments of Mark Ryan and Tim Ciechorski to the Downtown Park Task Force. Motion passed unanimously. c. Royal Oak Nature Society: Naturalist Bob Muller, gave an informative slide presentation regarding the accomplishments of the Nature Society in 2017 and addressed some of the challenges facing the organization. d. Pickleball at Upton: Motion by Ripinski, seconded by Kanan to recommend to the City Commission the purchase of acoustic fencing for the Upton Pickleball facility. V. Items not on the Agenda: None Upcoming Events: Next Meeting is Thursday November 2, 2017. Normandy Oaks Workshop October 28, 2017. Motion by Ryan and seconded by Ciechorski to adjourn at 7:58 p.m. Motion passed unanimously.
