IV. Business:
a. Senior Outreach
- Aaron Filipski – had a good discussion with a Boys Scout
member, although member was interested in a building project,
the scouts may consider a service project. We have a list but
must honor those people’s privacy. Can take an ad out on the
back page of insight with material.
- Commissioner Macey – likes the idea of a Facebook ad targeted
towards seniors. Gather volunteers as well through Facebook
outreach. Send in next round of water bills a link to the website
with information. Make it easy to remember.
- Tim Ciechorski – expressed concern with water bill method, for
those who don’t receive a water bill there are some heavy
populated seniors.
- Mike Ripinski – In lieu of water bill, provide handouts to Barton
Towers, assisted living centers in Royal Oak.
- Commissioner Macey – cost for water bill insert or flyer?
John Fedele - mentions that an insert in the water bill is
$13k and a flyer through his insight mailer to all
addresses was $6k
- Sarah Kindinger - likes the postcard with mail, established
seniors are not using technology and can reach the
demographic through the post office.
- Crystal Chow – mentions adding something on the water bills
envelop itself.
b. Tentative Opening Plan for Indoor Activities
- John Fedele – with hopes capacity restrictions increase, have
put together a limited indoor class schedule for both Senior
Center and Salter Center. Current occupancy limits for Senior
Center is 92 people and Salter Center is 80 people. Classroom
sizes that usually hold 50 people will be reduced to 12 – 20
people depending on classroom size. Class times will have a
longer period in between to prevent congregation, 6 feet
markers will be placed on the floor and rooms will be disinfected
between classes via foggers that were purchased.
.
c. Department Reports
- John Fedele mentions Normandy Oaks Park Halloween kickoff
event on Saturday 10/31/2020 from 11 – 2 pm. Dignitaries from
Royal Oak and Oakland County will be present as well as the
public for a site tour. Everyone seemed excited and ready for
park opening. Crews are working on Bassett Park with the
upgraded play equipment and the equipment is one of a kind.
- Aaron Filipski mentions the Boy Scouts are working with the
Nature Society on trails, DPS donating sand. Dog park hardware
installed and working, any issues can be worked on at the
clerk’s office.
V. Items not on the Agenda:
Mike Ripinski – mentions the golf course patio area can be leveled out
with mulch to create a nice outdoor seating area.
VI. Upcoming Events
Thanksgiving Curbside Pickup at the Senior Center on November 17,
2020 from 11:45 – 12:45 pm.

NOTICE OF PARKS, RECREATION AND SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
The Royal Oak Parks, Recreation and Senior Services Advisory Board will hold a meeting at
7:00p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2020
COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus that had not been previously identified in humans, can
spread easily from person to person, and can result in serious illness or death. To mitigate the spread
of COVID-19, to protect the public health, and provide essential protections to vulnerable
Michiganders, it is crucial that all Michiganders take steps to limit in-person contact. The critical
mitigation measures include social distancing and limiting the number of people interacting at public
gatherings. Conducting the November 5, 2020 Regular Parks, Recreation and Senior Services
Advisory Board Meeting in person would risk the personal health or safety of members of the public
and/or the City Commission. Therefore, the meeting will be held electronically, in compliance with PA
228 of 2020 and procedures established by the Royal Oak City Commission.
