SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
JANUARY 23, 2018
Welcome and call to order by Mayor Randy Horton
Discussion: Council seat left open by the resignation of Nathan George.
Motion: Mark Tripp. Let’s leave it open until a deadline of February 2 to give
people time to send in their letters of interest. Then set a meeting for Monday
February 5, the day before the agenda meeting on that Tuesday so we can do the
interviews. We can either make a decision that day or have a follow-up meeting
or wait for the regular council meeting. Mayor Horton could do a press release
and we could also put it on the city Facbook page.
Mayor Horton: Mr. Tyler Riley has been interested in doing this for a long time.
Harris: What kinds of answers should we ask for?
Attorney Smith: Age, marriage, kids, pregnancy.
Carruth: Can you ask where they want the city to go in the future?
Harris: You can ask goals, employment, skills, what’s their vision for the city.
Westcott: And education?
Discussion on the reasons for and timing of Mr. George’s resignation which
included the fact that he bought a house and he was still transferring his
household goods.
Trey: Your residence and domicile are not the same thing.
Westcott: In regard to the committees he was on, advertising and Main Streed
Downtown Master Plan and Information Technology, I would push for a meeting
for the council to re-choose committee positions.
Brown: I wouldn’t want to go for that.
Motion passed with not dissension.
Motion to Adjourn: Brown
