Beautification Committee Meeting 1/11/22 Present: Lisa Lyons, Sam Fiore, Mary Ellen Halliwell, Micaela Guglielmi, Guests: Brooke Nagle, Pam Shelton, Lucy Sprauge, Janis Manning, Charlene Bailey Minutes from October and November were approved, pending Micaela double check with Sandi the correct amount of money was $25,000 in October minutes Traffic island review  Volunteers have been picking up areas including Washington st strip  Container closest to Front St was about to fall into street – Ray came to fix it. Will check if irrigation was damaged in the spring  Salem so Sweet in February – decorate Washington St buckets with Valentines Day décor.  Could use more volunteers to help maintain islands  Is there a way to have more street sweeping near islands? DPW has a pretty set schedule and limited resources  Greenscapes does mowing for islands, sometimes volunteers see them out. City could coordinate their schedule more with our group’s work. Maybe we could make a shared calendar. Micaela can find out their typical schedule/monthly routine. Brooke will reach out to Margaret Duffy from SSCW  We need help with more sweeping downtown and maintaining the Washington St strip  Can a rep from this group go to a chamber of commerce meeting?  Mary Ellen could potentially be liaison for garden club  Lisa requested a schedule of BCOMMS work on Traffic Island  High school students have been hired in the summer to help out. Micaela can check with DPW  Brooke mentioned partnering with Creative Collective.  Brooke shared her flier and will email to committee for further review. We discussed where to put them out including Salem State  Could we set up a google group for committee emails Lady of Salem Update  Inventory of what needed to be done for repairs was taken while they’re in the PEM for the winter. Need new plaques and clamps for lamp post and brackets. February meeting we will submit request for things to be purchased. March we will go into basement and do the work.  NY Pizza lady has been found by Mary Ellen. Still don’t know where town hall lady is. 2022 Planning and Resources  Mary Ellen drafted a calendar listed below. Committee discussed calendar January and February….. LoS meeting to discuss refurbishment of the figureheads, repairs and cost. …. LoS coordinates with PEM and begins restoration. March & April……………..Traffic Islands…find sponsors ….start and send out MOUs(?) …Chose area to clean up for CLEAN SWEEPS …Find vendor to supply hanging plants, vegetables for plant sale May….1st weekend……..CLEAN SWEEPS 3rd weekend……..Plant Sale Last weekend…….LoS figureheads UP June …1st weekend …….Arts Festival…?? Good time to promote SBC and our summer events. July…..Coordinate with the Salem Garden Club on Traffic Island and WindowBox competition. …..Judge Traffic Island (? SBC) and Windowboxes (?SGC) August.. First weekend….Heritage Days…..Give competition awards…? Stage small ceremony? Sept……Pumpkin Decorating with children…..( maybe????) Oct…..First or Second week….Deliver pumpkins (?) …..Last weekend……Judge(?) Nov….LoS takedown
