Draft of Minutes of Board of Trustees Meeting of February 16, 2023 Salem, Massachusetts February 16, 2023 A meeting of the Board of Trustees was held via Zoom on this date at 4:37pm with Trustees Austin, Morin, Rourke, Mayor McCarthy, and Trustee Buckley present and presiding. Trustee April was absent. Miss Mansfield was present. Approval of draft minutes from January 19, 2023 UNANIMOUS. Miss Mansfield reported that the Pop Up Library was visiting Old Town Hall this month and that the Children’s Program area would be cleaned out in mid-March. She noted that the library planned to have a celebration for the reopening. Current Library Use and Financial reports were distributed. Salem was fifth highest in NOBLE for circulation of physical items in January. Salem was second highest in January for Overdrive/Libby circulation. Financial reports were distributed. Miss Mansfield noted that the accountant had completed the FY21 accounting and the FY22 accounting, and that a large combined invoice was received. Miss Mansfield reported that the traditional 4th Grade Author visit was coming up, and noted that last year the author visited the schools with a librarian. The Trustees decided to continue the tradition and have the author visit the schools, rather than bussing the students to the library. Miss Mansfield reported that that a capital request was submitted for new furniture in FY24 and the Trustees discussed the possibility of custom furniture. Mayor McCarthy noted that the funding decision would be made closer to June. Trustee Morin reported that he had been in contact with Josh Craine from Daedalus, Inc. He noted that the paint had been removed from the cast iron pieces and that the rust on the metal was being treated. Trustee Morin shared photographs of the Poseidon sculpture and wax castings of the ornamental pieces that would need to be recast. Trustee Morin reported that he had received a quote from one of the excavation contractors and that it was less than the original quote received from Heritage. The Trustees reviewed the changes made to the draft collection development policy. Trustee Rourke made a motion to approve the Salem Public Library Collection Development Policy. Seconded by Trustee Austin. UNANIMOUS. The Trustees discussed the Board vacancy and the candidates. Trustee Rourke made a motion to appoint Andrew Lutts as Salem Public Library Trustee, contingent upon his agreement to sign a conflict of interest form. Seconded by Trustee Austin. UNANIMOUS. Adjourned 5:54pm.
