CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Dominick Pangallo Mayor Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds Minutes of the June 8, 2023 Meeting Present: Mayor Pangallo, William P. Goreham, Richard Lobsitz, Sumner Jones and Ashley Judge The meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM at the office of William P. Goreham, CPA. Major Richard Sanchez of the Salvation Army attended the meeting and reviewed his FY23 Large Grant Proposal with the Board. The Council on Aging submitted a request for medication expense reimbursement for one Salem resident. Richard Lobsitz made a motion to approved $70.00 from the Endicott Fund for the expenses. The motion was seconded by Ashley Judge and voted unanimously. Sumner Jones made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 11, 2023 meeting. The motion was seconded by Richard Lobsitz and voted unanimously. The Board discussed and reviewed all the large grant proposals that were submitted for FY24. After discussion about available funds, the Board agreed to level fund the proposals at the same rate as FY23 except for The Salem Pantry request, it was approved for $7,000.00. The Board will ask for additional information and clarification from the Salem Panty regarding the “Healthy Meals” program at Salem Hospital. Sumner Jones made a motion to approve the proposals, as above. The motion was seconded by William P. Goreham and voted unanimously. The Scholarship Awards for Salem High School were sent May 11, 2023. The amounts were as follows: Top Twelve Students, $50 each from the Andrews and Discretionary Funds, Top Seven Students, $1,000 each from the Beston – McDonough Fund, Two awards for $1,000 each from the Roland Pinault Class of 41’ Fund, and Two awards for $500 each from the Kiwanis Fund. This was the first Salem Team to get into the top ten. Congratulations team! The Board received an invitation to the Samaritan Charitable Society of Salem symposium 9/20/23 at the Peabody Essex Museum. Thank you notes were received from the Plummer Youth Promise and Lifebridge for the Board’s continued support of their organizations. The next scheduled meeting will be September 14, 2023 at 4:00 PM at City Hall. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:05 PM. Respectfully submitted: F.
