(978)745-0195 ANTHONY O’DONNELL MAYOR FAX (978) 741-7041 PHILLIP JOHNS MINUTES OF THE CEMETERY COMMISSION June 20, 2023 A meeting of the Salem Cemetery Commission was held on June 20, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., via ZOOM, an online video conference call system. Present on call were Chairperson Jacob St. Louis, Members: Beth Gerard, Kate Hanson and Anthony O’Donnell; Raymond Jodoin, Director of Operations; and Conor Morgan, General Foreperson, Cemetery/Tree Division, DPS. Phillip Johns was absent. 1. Approve Cemetery Commission Meeting Minutes for April 18, 2023 Ms. Gerard made a motion to approve the Cemetery Commission Meeting Minutes for April 18, 2023. Seconded by Ms. Hanson. A roll call vote was taken and the motion was carried unanimously. 2. Discussion Vote regarding acceptable proof of residency for burial in Greenlawn Cemetery Ms. Gerard made a motion to approve acceptable proof of residency for burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Seconded by Mr. O’Donnell. A roll call vote was taken and the motion was carried unanimously. ACCEPTABLE FORMS: • Driver’s license • Utility Bill/Mortgage • Census • Rental Agreement • Pay stub from employer 3. Burke Lot survey work for sale of lots • Should we go double deep or side by side? Survey work for trees needed to be completed along with survey work for laying out for graves before this conversation can take place. Discussion should be taken up at the next meeting on August 15, 2023. 1 4. Discussion about Dickson Chapel - West Side Chapel Slope Expansion • Presentation by Martha Lyons, Landscape Architect Martha Lyons presented a conceptual plan for West Side Dickson Chapel Slope expansion to the community. Ms. Lyons was informing stakeholders about landscape survey work on going at the time of this meeting, but a 60% design should be ready for the August 15, 2023, meeting for review. • Public comment, five minutes per person not to exceed one hour in total o Richard Stafford asked about a staircase to showcase Dickson Chapel. o Christine Lutts made mention about the different variety of trees and how it would be nice to preserve or improve the arboretum statue located at Greenlawn Cemetery. o Louis Sargent was interested in the scattering garden and what shape that would take. o The fee schedule for burels will need to be addressed at a later time. o Is there financial assistance available for the less fortunate. 5. New Business - None 6. Adjournment: Ms. Gerard made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Mr. St. Louis. A roll call vote was taken, and the motion was carried unanimously.
