1 CITY OF SALEM JANUARY 7, 2019 SPECIAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday, January 7, 2019 at 6:00 P.M. for the purpose of organizing city government for the year 2019. Notice of this meeting was posted on December 19, 2018 at 3:28 P.M. All Councillors were present. City Clerk Ilene Simons called the meeting to order, and Councillor Thomas H. Furey member assumed the Chair. Acting Council President Furey recognized officials that were present. Senator Joan B. Lovely, Mayor Kimberley Driscoll and Fire Chief, John Giunta. Acting Council President Furey called upon Councillors Madore and McCarthy to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. #1 – ELECTION OF PRESIDENT Councillor Turiel introduced the following Order, which was adopted. ORDERED: That the City Council proceed to organize for 2019 by the election of a president. Councillor Dominguez nominated Councillor Stephen G. Dibble Councillor Milo seconded the nomination. Councillor Sargent moved that the nominations be closed. It was so voted. Councillor Stephen G. Dibble was elected President of the City Council for the year 2019 by a roll call vote of 10 yeas, 0 nays, 0 absent, 1 present. Councillor McCarthy moved that the roll call vote reflect a unanimous vote of 11 yeas and 0 nays. It was so voted. 2 Acting President Furey appointed Councillors Peterson and Flynn to escort newly elected President Dibble to the rostrum. President Dibble thanked the City Council for electing him President. #2 – RULES AND REGULATIONS Councillor Gerard introduced the following Order, which was adopted. ORDERED: That the Rules and Regulations of the City Council for the year 2018 be adopted as the Rules and Regulations for the year 2019, and that the same be suspended for this meeting.
