Salem City Council Land Acknowledgment The Salem City Council honors that this land is Naumkeag, or fishing place, where generations of Naumkeag people from the Pawtucket band of the Massachusett Tribe lived and passed through for centuries. Appointment; term; removal; vacancy. A Director of Technology and Innovation shall be appointed biannually in January by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the city council, and shall hold office for two years from February 1 following their appointment or until a successor is appointed and qualified. The purpose of the Task Force is to engage in research, community conversations, and design and historical review for the purposes of evaluating the City of Salem City Seal and developing recommendations for potential modifications to said Seal. The Task Force shall consist of 11 members, five Salem residents at least two of whom are members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and one of whom is under the age of 18, nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; two credentialed historians nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council; a designee of the Race Equity Commission selected by that Commission’s membership; a designee of the City Council selected by that Council’s membership; a member of the Public Art Commission selected by that Commission’s membership; and a designee of the Mayor. The Task Force shall elect from their membership a chair, to run their meetings, and a vice chair, to run meetings in the absence of the chair. Within 18 months from its formation, the Task Force shall prepare a final report based on its historical research, design input, and public feedback and deliver such report to both the City Council and Mayor. Section 3.1 Table of Principal and Accessory Use Regulations of the Zoning Ordinance is hereby amended by: a. Replacing the commercial use text “Retail store, except department store, not elsewhere set forth” with “Retail or grocery store, except department store, not elsewhere set forth;” b. Replacing the “N” in the B1 zoning district column with a “Y” for the Accessory Use of Family day care, small; and c. Replacing the “N” in the B1 zoning district column with a “BA” for the Accessory Use of Home occupation. Section II. This Ordinance shall take effect as provided by City Charter.
