Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council Meeting Minutes Wednesday. November 8, 2017 7:00 P.M. City Hall Annex, 120 Washington Street, 3rd Floor Members Present: Anne Sterling, Christian Haselgrove, Norman LaPointe, Barbara Mann, Pat Liberti, Flora Tonthat, Nina Cohen Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo (Mayor’s Chief of Staff) Guests Present: None Approval of October 11, 2017 Meeting Minutes: Approved Public Comment: None Council Updates: BSNA-Still waiting on trash/recycling receptacles for Salem Jail lot. Collins park is looing good and more plantings are coming in the spring. Northfields-Still pushing back on the Ferris proposal. Holiday caroling and luminaria are upcoming. Will be a rededication of the rose window in the Dickson Chapel later this month. MPNA (shared by Anne Sterling)- Meeting on Nov. 14 will feature Sheriff Coppinger, 7pm at the Moose. HDSNA-Sidewalk work still underway. Good to see the work done, but some impacts from it. Wanted to know if Hardy Street west side would be getting a brick ribbon on the southern portion. New officer elections are this month and this will be Christian’s final meeting with NIAC as the HDSNA representative. SSNA-No party complaints from SSU off campus houses this month. Canal Street roadwork is progressing, as is the flood project on Clifton/Forest. GESNA-No updates this month. Gallows Hill: Neighbors supportive of Mayor’s proposal for using CPA to acquire Bemis Street parcel in the park. Aggregate trucks on Swampscott Rd still speeding and loud. Chestnut- HSI is looking for volunteer guides for their Christmas house walk. Pleased with outcome of brick sidewalks on Essex Street. City Updates: NSCAP’s free Thanksgiving meals listing was distributed for associations to share with those in need during the holidays. The Haunted Happenings survey is online through Friday 10am. Find it at www.salem.com under News & Announcements. We’ll be holding a public after action meeting later in November to hear feedback from residents and business owners. Details will be posted at salem.com once the date, time, and location are confirmed. Haunted Happenings 2017 by the numbers: we don’t have the financial numbers yet, but here are some stats that we do have. Cemetery: 17,025 total visitors from Friday-Tuesday. Shuttle: 4,708 total passengers equaling 1,569 vehicles and 3,139 vehicle trips. Info booth: 23,000 total visitors over the course of the month. Veterans Day ceremony takes place Saturday at 11am at Salem High School. Will include ROTC and High School band performance, as well as remarks from the Superintendent of the Chelsea Soldiers Home and presentation of the City of Salem Wartime Service Medals. The Harlem Wizards basketball team will be playing a team of Salem school principals and teachers on Nov. 16 at 6:30pm at Salem High. Proceeds go to support the district PTOs. There’s a Facebook page with details, if you search for “Harlem Wizards Salem MA.” Textile recycles event takes place November 18 from 8am to 3pm at Riley Plaza. Week of November 27th is curbside yard waste collection week, on your trash day. Holiday Happenings starts November 24th with Santa’s arrival at the Hawthorne Hotel at 5:45pm, and runs through January. Lots of great events and all details are on www.salem.org.
