Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council Meeting Minutes Wednesday, April 10, 2019 7:00 P.M. City Hall Annex, 98 Washington Street Called to Order: 7:00 p.m. Members Present: Dennis Colbert (Barnes, Clark, Wyman), Dennis Maloney and Jerry Smith (Salem Common), Wendy Meigs (Historic Derby Street), Christy Evans (Mack Park), Meg Riccardi (North Street Northfields), Portia Green (Downtown), Lucy Corchado (Point), Cindy Jerzylo (Willows) Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo (Office of Mayor Driscoll) Approval of March 13, 2019 Meeting minutes: Approved Public Comment: None Neighborhood Association Updates: o MPNA: Mayor Driscoll address the April meeting, well attended. The Jim Treadwell bench for Greenlawn has been ordered and the geological/historical sign for Mack Park has been installed. There’s some discussion starting about the possibility of an urban agriculture project at Mack Park. o NSNNA: Monthly meeting is tomorrow. May 4 there will be a Clean Sweeps cleanup on the path next to the former HMA property and Salem Sound Coastwatch is doing Furlong beach. The Friends of Greenlawn have an event May 18 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Dickson Chapel. o BCWNA: Concerns with the Life Storage proposal and its heights, they’ve agreed to meet with the neighbors before filing for approvals. o SCNA: Work underway at the former Knights of Columbus site and it’s a bit noisy. Hoping for some short-term repairs to what appears to be dangerous conditions at the bandstand, before the larger improvement project takes place. The 1st Muster takes place Saturday morning and “Kentucky Derby Star Wars Day” is May 4 at 5pm. Clean Sweeps cleanup on the Common on May 4 in the morning. o WNA: Good meeting with City Engineer and GZA about the condition and cost estimates on the Columbus Avenue seawall; there’s a plan for the repairs, just need to identify funding. Willows project is hoping for a CPA award to get it underway. Planning for a community cleanup of Fort Lee in June. o HDSNA: Clean Sweeps cleanup at Swiniuch Park May 4. Footprint is now saying the remaining site work won’t be completed until the end of the year and there have been some disruptive steam releases lately. Neighbors pitched in and cleaned the grassy area along Fort Avenue near the plant. o DNA: March meeting featured Salem Chamber and Salem Main Streets directors discussing business in Salem. Ward 1 and Ward 2 Councillors will be holding a joint town hall event with the DNA on May 21. o PNA: Next meeting is on April 29 at 6pm at 135 Lafayette Street. May 4 Clean Sweeps will be setting block captains and crews, with a focus on Congress Street. Working with HDSNA to plan  a Ward 1 City Council candidates’ forum. Working on a new website for the neighborhood association. City Updates: • Valet parking starts April 19, Fridays/Saturdays 5pm-midnight. Bring your car to the parking spaces on Washington Street northbound in front of Rockafellas to drop it off for the valet. $12 per vehicle. • Resident survey is only through April 21 and can be found at www.salem.com/mayor. • Zagster has relaunched for the season with more bikes and stations. • The next MAPC affordable housing workshop takes place April 23, 6pm, at the CLC. The workshop is free and open to all, and will focus on inclusionary zoning and accessory dwelling units. • Yard waste drop-off at transfer stations starts April 20. Saturdays 7am-3pm; Sundays 9am-5pm. • Spring street sweeping starts April 16-25 on entrance corridors 5am-7am; neighborhood streets April 29-May 24, 7am-3pm.
