Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council - Meeting Minutes Wednesday, January 8, 2020, 7:00 P.M. City Hall Annex, 98 Washington Street Called to Order: 7:00 p.m. Members Present: Christy Evans (Mack Park), Anne Sterling (North Street Northfields), Mira Riggin and Sharon Smith (Historic Derby Street), Cindy Jerzylo and Laurie Albury (Willows), Marlene Faust (Downtown), Lisa Peterson (Broad Street) Staff Present: Dominick Pangallo (Office of Mayor Driscoll) Approval of November 13, 2019 and December 11, 2019 meeting minutes: Approved Neighborhood Association Updates: • Willows: The Department of Public Services has placed sandbags at the Columbus Avenue seawall and along Cheval and Juniper, working well. The City has received a grant for the design and permitting of improvements to the Columbus Avenue seawall. Willows Project stakeholders met, a grant was not received so for the short-term work is focusing on tree work to start, as other funding is pursued. • Historic Derby Street: Essex Street sewer repair project is underway. City Engineer David Knowlton will speak at the next meeting on Monday at 7pm at St. Joseph’s Hall. • Downtown: Pre-7AM deliveries are less of an issue for most businesses; however, Speedway continues to receive overnight deliveries. Happy to see more of the downtown trees went in near Derby Lofts, but still waiting on others along Central and Derby Square. • Bridge Street Neck: Meeting on 1/13 at 6:30pm at Hawthorne Hotel for presentation by Solarize North Shore. Bridge Street master plan task force next meets on 1/28. The new townhouses at the former Magic Muffler site are wrapping up and being advertised for sale. • North Street Northfields: Luminaria was on the Sunday before Christmas. Megan Riccardi prevailed in the lawsuit about the election and will be the new Ward 6 City Councillor. There have been reports of door-to- door electricity supply salespeople in the neighborhood. • Barnes/Clark/Wyman: Association met with developers proposing new housing project on Highland Avenue and expressed concerns related to traffic, impact on Barnes Road, need for playground, sidewalks, etc. The developers are reworking plans based on that feedback and will meet with them again. Two sand barrels in the neighborhood were not put out by DPS. • Mack Park: Winter rye has been planted at Mack Park. Concerns with speeding on Tremont Street and School Street. Interest in new caretakers at the Mack House. Jim McAllister presenting at next meeting, January 14th, 6:30 p.m., at the Moose Lodge. • Broad Street: No major updates this month. Working to try to increase membership and participation in the association. • Common (submitted electronically): Fence update: WSE & Hawthorne sections removed last week; will be reinstalled in spring. Barriers needed to protect Fence during snow season. Common branch/leaves general clean up timing. Holiday Tree help – thanks to Park Services for set up & removal. No smoking status issue – timing of ordinance passage and posting of signs. The Pad underneath the Washington Arch needs cost and timing estimate from the City Engineer. Timeframe needed for removal and storage of the orange lights donated by the movie company last Halloween that were a big hit with tourists & residents alike. SCNA events: SCNA Winter Brunch at Hawthorne at noon on 2/9. Speaker: Councilor Ty Hapworth. SCNA Annual Meeting at Hawthorne at 7 PM on 3/26. Speaker: Mayor Kim Driscoll. SCNA Movie Night at Witch Museum. Movie and date TBD likely to be in March or April. Next Meeting: Wednesday, February 12, 7pm, 98 Washington Street Adjourned: 8:15 p.m.
