Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council - Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 10, 2021, 7:00 P.M.
Called to Order: 7:05 p.m.
Members Present: Barbara Mank, Lori Hart, Barbara Mann, Dennis Maroney, Anne Sterling,
Dennis Colbert, Flora Tonthat, Christin Hatch, Nina Cohen, Marlene Faust, Cindy Jerzylo

Approval of February 10, 2021 minutes: Approved
Guest Speakers: Mayor Kim Driscoll was joined by Acting Chief Dennis King and CIU
commander Sergeant Jason Gross to talk about crime and public safety in Salem. Acting Chief
King reviewed data and other details in a presentation he had given to the City Council the week
prior on the same topic. Following his presentation, he took questions from NIAC members on:
The proposed gun shop on Florence Street.
Whether the PD had an anonymous tip line (it does: 978-619-5627).
If PD could help arrange an identity theft seminar.
How PD response to homeless persons.
What neighborhood associations should know about door-to-door solicitors.
The pedestrian crossing at North Street and Essex Street.
Speeding on Derby Street.
Illegal fireworks being fired off at Dead Horse Beach.

The Transfer Station is opening for the weekend of March 20-21 for yard waste drop-off.

Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting
Law, G.L. c. 30A, §20, and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 Order imposing strict limitation on the number of
people that may gather in one place, this meeting of the Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Council will be
conducted via remote participation to the greatest extent possible. Specific information and the general
guidelines for remote participation by members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to
attend this meeting can be found on the city’s website, at www.salem.com.
