Salem Public Art Commission 98 Was Washington Street, Salem, Massachusetts 01970 (978) 619-5685 Fax (978) 740-0404 NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING PUBLIC ART COMMISSION 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2019 City Hall Annex, 98 Washington St., 1​st​ Floor Meeting called to order 6:36pm by Norene Gachignard Roll Call Members Present: Norene Gachignard, John Andrews, Janine Liberty, Kurt Ankeny-Beauchamp, Carly Naik Dwyer, Emily Larsen, and Brennan Corriston Approval of March and June Minutes Andrews made a motion to approve Larsen seconded the motion. Discussion: Motion passes: Unanimously ● Artists’ Row Updates ○ PAC 2020 Artists Row Plan will be worked on by previously established subcommittee Kurt Ankeny-Beauchamp, Carly Naik Dwyer, John Andrew, Kylie Sullivan, Kate Newhall Smith ○ Boston Wood Turning space a. Will be out July 29 b. Corriston said that the SRA will empower the subcommittee to make the decision to fill the space. c. Andrews suggested the Salem Flea d. Devine suggested Mayflower Vintage e. Skeletons in the Closer f. Music Lessons also suggested ● Vote on additional funding for temp mural installation ○ Daria Madison from planning office is working on the mural installation project, ○ she found that there will be additional costs to remove and install the new mural. This will need to be approved by the PAC ○ The additional costs will cover hiring a third party to do the labor because DPW is unable to ○ Final Design will be approved by PAC ○ Addition funds totals to $1,635 ○ Future murals should have a deaccession plan Motion to approve additional funding for mural Andrews made a motion to approve Gachignard seconded the motion. Discussion: Motion passes: Unanimously ● PAC 2020 Budget Updates and Discussion ○ Should the PAC use funds to run programming for 289 Derby a. there seems to an open space that could be programmed with public art such as the King Lear project b. Workplan for 2020 needs to be created c. Andrews suggested waiting to see if the Arts Planner position is full to see where the focus of the city will be. ● Transition Plan (updates) ○ Tom Devine has been working on artists row ○ Questions can be forwarded to Brennan Corriston ○ The PAC would like to have input on new Public Arts Planner ○ PAC also has concerns about the new planner still having the responsibilities of facilities management ● King Lear ○ Actors are already in prep, budget has been sent for review ○ 289 Derby needs to be activated but the funding for programming has not been secured. ○ decision will be postponed to accommodate municipal guidelines ○ Andrews suggested doing one weekend at 289 Derby and Derby Square ● Other Business ○ Outreach could be done to Hasbro monopoly piece near Bit Bar ○ 298 Derby a. PAC may be able to activate the space b. Possibly a sculpture ● Public Comments ● Adjourn Ankeny- Bauchamp made a motion to adjourn Gachignard seconded Meeting adjourned ar 8:30pm Know your rights under the Open Meeting Law M.G.L. c. 30A § 18-25 and City Ordinance § 2-2028 through § 2-2033.
