Meeting called to order, recording initiated.

Governor’s Statement, read by Chair.
Reports from Coalition
[A] Chair Denise and Elise have stepped down due to other commitments. Stopped by
Lifebridge and spoke with Jason Ethridge who gave us a $1,000 check for our fundraising.
[B] Clerk Previous minutes emailed. Approved and accepted into Public Record. Sorry to miss
our meetup due to my foot injury!
[C] Treasurer Balance is $1,135.29 – after Lifebridge donation. Low on swag; only have
sanctuary buttons in English/Spanish.
[D] Subcommittee Reports
New Arrivals Will meetup and discuss a call to action if possible in later in October. An
American Immigration Council report is part of the Welcome Immigrant Council.
Universal Basic Income No update.

[E] Liaison Reports
Burke – an arrest was made regarding the church and crosswalk graffiti that was done last
month.
Julio – There is a banned book library outside of City Hall downtown.
Kerry – Baseball game in support of NE Adaptive Sports in September was really cool – with
blindfolded City Councilors to boot!
Kate/Lucy – Jonathan Quinones event on October 12th at 6 p.m. Part of the “What Would You
Do” series.
Laura – Go on Salem Public Schools’ social media and FB page – on Thursdays we go on
Facebook live in English and Spanish.
Group Discussion
Fundraiser at Flatbreads
Cannot invite City Councilors, but can invite the Mayor. $4 donation with a Large Pizza
purchase. $2 donation with a Small Pizza purchase. We’re holding a gift drawing – buy a SHRC
shirt and get entered into the gift drawing. Gifts include: JAHO Gift Card, Oak n Moss Gift Card,
Modern Millie Gift Card, Emporium 32 Gift Card.
Discrimination Report Form
Available in five (5) languages. Data collection only; used as a temperature check. Once a report
is submitted, it goes to Michael Corley, Regina, and Alphonse; not responsible for
communicating to SHRC. Used to help identify areas of concern. Quarterly* reporting goes to
Race Equity Commission to inform practices.

Notice is hereby given that a Human Rights Coalition meeting will be held on Tuesday, October
3, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., via remote participation in accordance with Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023.
Every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real
time, via technological means.
Salem Human Rights Coalition Values
We value and respect members of all communities.
We welcome people of every age, ancestry, color, disability, ethnicity, family status,
gender identity or expression, immigration status, marital status, military status,
national origin, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation.
We will create a brave space for all participants at SHRC meetings, whether in-person or
online.
We will challenge the use of microaggressions*, and we will not tolerate abusive or
bullying behavior.
* Microaggressions are casual remarks, questions, or actions that are painful because
they have to do with a person's membership in a group discriminated against or subject
to stereotypes.
We expect ALL participants to abide by SHRC values while attending the meeting, or risk
expulsion.
