Assade, Samuel Hoang, Collin McLean, Andrew Boucher, Isaac – Mayors intern
Meeting Called to Order
The meeting called to order at 5:05pm
Introductions & Public Comments:
Introductions were made by all Youth Commissioners as a guest, Isaac who is interning in the
Mayor’s Office. There were no public comments.
Previous Meeting Minutes:
After careful review of the previous meeting minutes from July 11, and July 25th, youth
commissioners and adult representatives noted that a motion was second by an associate member
of the commission. After further clarification on who has voting permissions the commissioners
made a motion to approve minutes from July 11th, & July 25th with amendments discussed in prior
meetings. Nick Angeramo made the motion and was second by Jared Lubas. The motion passed.
Developing Committee Norms:
The commissioners and adult representatives established some norms to go by during the
meetings and as they are representing the commission. The norms established by the youth
commissioners to name a few are as follows:
-Stick to the agenda
-Be prepared for the meeting
-Listen when someone is talking
-Respect others opinions and ideas
-Be encouraging
These norms will be posted at each meeting and appropriate updates to the list will be made by
commissioners as needed.

Guest Speaker:
Isaac visited the youth commissioners to get feedback and thoughts about a possible city wide
run Student Government Day. In previous years, it has been run only at Salem High school for
Rising seniors mid to late April for a half day shadowing opportunity. The youth commissioners
provided with some ideas on how it could be beneficial to have a full day of activities, a potential
career fair, discussed who could be included and how the they can spread the word. Student
government day at the present time is not running in other schools (SACS, New Liberty Charter
and Out of School Programs like Youth Build). Youth commissioners thought that it would be a
great way to break down barriers between schools as this one of the concerns mentioned when
the commission was formed.
Youth Survey:
Shared the survey again to the group via group chat for easy cut and paste option on the
commissioners’ mobile devise. Also discussed ways it can be distributed to youth around Salem.
Some YC’s will request paper copies of the survey for when they go to public events to conduct
them there, surveys will be handed at advisory groups at the beginning of the school year and
commissioners will talk to their administrators about the goal of the survey and request permission
to conduct the survey in their classrooms.
Membership
Candidate profile sheets were distributed to Commissioner interested in board positions and were
asked to complete before the next meeting on August 22nd, 2016. Election of officers will be held
in September.
Other Updates and Comments:
Ruby and Samuel gave an update on their experience at the Youth 2 Youth Conference. Proposed
that the group do similar activities to promote positive things youth can do without drugs and
alcohol. Youth will continue to update the group next week about their experience and provide
further details on activities and partnership between Lynn and Salem Youth Commission.
