CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Kimberley Driscoll Mayor Salem Youth Commission Meeting Minutes December 19, 2016 Attendance: AnneryLee Gonzalez, Oznardys Gonzalez, Aiyanna Lilly, Collin McLean, Nick Angeramo, Mayor Kim Driscoll, Patrick Boardway, Jorge Gomez Frometa, Michael Quigley, Felicia Pierce, Jared Lubas, Laura Assade Meeting Called to Order The meeting called to order at 6:00pm Service Learning Project- Shoe boxes Youth commissioners gathered to put together shoe boxes and bags as their first service learning project. All members were able to put together a combination of 150 bags and boxes for our families in Salem. As a group we discussed best ways to execute future projects. Commissioners suggested we start a drive earlier to make it bigger and involve more community members. Over all we had great method of assembling the boxes. Commissioners suggested that we keep inventory of the number of items that are collected and that the YC members will assist in organizing items donated. Introductions & Public Comments: We introduced and welcomed three new associate members, Lilly, Ozzy and Patrick. Felicia shared information about Youth build service learning projects during MLK Week. Mentioned there will be an opportunity to paint a mural, serve breakfast at my brothers table, volunteers could also make mason jars for seniors. Previous Meeting Minutes: Nick made a motion to accept November minutes, Felicia second the motions. Motion passed and minutes were approved. The three subcommittees are as follows: Membership, Community Engagement & Public Relations. The following students and adult representatives are involved in the following subcommittees. Public Relations: Felicia Peirce, Jared Lubas, Membership: Aiyana Lilly, Collin McLean, Michael Quigley Community Engagement: Laura Assade, Nick Angeramo, Ruby Cheresnowsky, Jorge Frometa Current/Future Projects: We will keep a look out for future opportunities. Announcements: * Chair, Nick Angeramo suggested the commission start thinking about getting more involved in attending and learning about city council meetings. *Youth commissioners at the Salem Winter market collected $34.00 and some additional items. The donated funds were used to purchase additional items for shoe box drive. Youth Commissioners thought that if we continue to collect funds that we should think about appointing a treasurer and have an revolving account for the commission to have fundraisers.
