CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Kimberley Driscoll Mayor Salem Youth Commission Meeting Minutes February 12, 2018 Attendance: Felicia Pierce, Lillie Kelley, Nick Angeramo, Collin McLean, Valentina Méndez Meeting Called to Order The meeting called to order at 6:10pm Introductions & Public Comments: Commissioners asked questions about the status on the new building (90 Washington street) and when it is due for completion. There was an announcement about the Youth Build Program and Open House and discussion about proposed shuttle for Salem. Previous Meeting Minutes: Meeting minutes from October 16th and January 23rd were approved with necessary edits. Newly Confirmed Member: -Lillie, Ashley, Ishmael, Valentina were all confirmed at the council meeting Thursday, February 8th. Youth Commission would like to a date to congratulate new members and confirmed members formally. Future Plans / SYC Business: 1. Youth commission is to focus on 3 projects for the remainder of this year: - 2nd Drive for Students in Puerto Rico (April 24th, 2018) o Boxes or bags to be collected to hold items for February 27th o Drive will be for school supplies - City Wide Student Government Day (April 12th, 2018) - Salem Youth Commission Fundraiser (Tentative March 2018) o Restaurant to host a night o Crowd funding opportunities o Request for donation from banks, businesses and other organizations. o Looking to have a treasurer position for a youth to hold to help keep track donated funds 2. Salem youth commissioners requested to get information about community meetings as well as dates and information on city council meetings for a representative to be present from SYC if needed. 4. Discussed better communication strategies to keep all commissioners involved and informed. This too will also help with plans for recruitment 5. Discussed plan to establish better presence in the community a. Social media b. Open house c. Attending other city related meetings.
