CITY OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS Kimberley Driscoll Mayor Salem Youth Commission Meeting Minutes May 29, 2018 Attendance : Michael Quigley, Laura Assade, Collin McLean, Mikhaela Abreu, David Turiel, Lour Drick Valsote, Julia Roche, Abigail Clark, Ashley Blanco, Nick Angeramo, Ishmael Telemaco, Lilly Kelley Meeting Called to Order The meeting called to order at 6:18pm Introductions & Public Comments: There were no new Youth Commissioners to introduce. Youth Commissioners shared a collective summary of the last meeting. Members shared updates on the Puerto Rico drive in their schools. Some members were wondering what happens after a member graduates high school. Previous Meeting Minutes: No corrections – Minutes were approved Sub-Committee Discussion ● Community Engagement ○ shared an overview of last subcommittee meeting ○ discuss role in recruitment and how to aid the projects of other groups ○ be representatives for the Youth Commission at community events ■ help create a schedule for the rest of the year, look for guest speakers, and set up workshops ● Public relations ○ created an Instagram ■ @salemyouthcommission , needs a logo (maybe the city logo), connect to Facebook page ● Recruitment & Retention ○ guest speakers, workshops, and mini events to encourage attendance ■ public speaking, investing/credit, politics, healthy living, scholarships, etc ○ Holding a formal vote to enact a minimum attendance requirement Salem City Hall – 93 Washington Street – Salem, MA 01970-3592 Ph. 978-745-9595 Fax 978-744-9327  ○ Re-solidify mission statement, set goals, reflect on past year or so Next Meeting: June 11, 2018 at 96 Lafayette Street - conference room Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 7:12 PM Salem City Hall – 93 Washington Street – Salem, MA 01970-3592 Ph. 978-745-9595 Fax 978-744-9327
